Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 updated

The Debian project is pleased to announce the fifth update of its stable
distribution Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 (codename "etch"). This update mainly
adds corrections for security problems to the stable release, along with
a few adjustment to serious problems.

Please note that this update does not constitute a new version of Debian
GNU/Linux 4.0 but only updates some of the packages included. There is
no need to throw away 4.0 CDs or DVDs but only to update via an
up-to-date Debian mirror after an installation, to cause any out of date
packages to be updated.

Security Support for Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 to be terminated on June 30th

More than one year after the release of Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 alias
'sarge' and nearly four years after the release of Debian GNU/Linux 3.0
alias 'woody' the security support for the old distribution (3.0 alias
'woody') is coming to an end next month. The Debian project is proud to
be able to support its old distribution for such a long time and even for
one year after a new version has been released.

The Debian project has released Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 alias 'sarge' on the
6th of June 2005. Users and Distributors have been given a one-year
timeframe to upgrade their old inst

Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 updated (r2)

This is the second update of Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (codename `sarge')
which mainly adds security updates to the stable release, along with
some corrections to serious problems. Those who frequently update from
security.debian.org won't have to update many packages and most
updates from security.debian.org are included in this update.

Please note that this update does not produce a new version of Debian
GNU/Linux 3.1 but only adds a few updated packages to it. There is no
need to throw away 3.1 CDs but only to update against ftp.debian.org
after an installation, in order to incorporate those late changes.

Debian Project considers GNU FDL conditionally free
---------------------------------------------------

The Debian project has decided that documents distributed under the
GNU Free Documentation License (FDL) are considered free with regards
to the Debian Free Software Guidelines (DFSG) if they don't contain
any invariant sections.

This decision has been been reached by a general resolution in which
all Debian developers had the opportunity to cast a ballot. 369
Debian developers have taken part in this vote and the majority of
them considers documents released under the GNU FDL suitable for the
main Debian archive as long as they don't contain u

Debian Security Support in Place

The Debian project confirms that the security infrastructure for both
the current release Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (alias sarge) and the former
release 3.0 (alias woody) is working again. The security team is now
able to provide updates on a regular basis again.

There were several issues with the security infrastructure after the
release of sarge, that lead to the Debian security team being unable
to issue updates to vulnerable packages. These issues have been fully
resolved, and the infrastructure is working correctly again.

The Debian project further strongly advises users to not install
packages from the sarge-pr
