Hello Jakob,

Markup view is designed for working with script-like documents where
seeing XML tags is helpful. For navigation in Serna it's better to use
ContentMap and context hints.

Markup has its own background colours and it's impossible to switch it
off.

Thank you.

stylesheet to customise the look for my documents. Among other
things, I have added background colours to a number of elements. When
switching to markup view where all element tags are displayed, the
background colours disappear.

How can I avoid this? It is really helpful to see the background

Hello Seraphim,

Serna does not have this functionality now. We'll add it in our future
feature-list.

By now, we may suggest you the following work-around:
 - copy formatted content in some application
 - select a portion of document with place where you are planning to
paste the formatted content (in Serna)
 - call Edit -> Edit Selection as Text
 - paste your formatted content in the appropriate place, press OK ->
Serna inserts the content with tags.

Have you any other questions please feel free to contact me.

Thank you.

Daria Chernova

When copying/pasting formatted content into Serna (e.g., from a web browser, or
from Word), Serna seems to just dump it all as text, without any tags at all.

I've used some other editors that seem to have more intelligence when pasting --
for example, it's no problem to copy a table from Firefox and paste it into a
DITA topic, and preserve all the table formatting.

Can Serna already do that, but I just haven't turned on the right preferences or
something?

Thanks!

Hedley, what would you do with the <image> element, which has a "placement"
attribute for inline or break? It's the only one I can think of at this
time with a changeable behavior, but I thought I'd toss out the prospect of
others that might have a "block or inline" identity crisis, especially as a
result of a specialization that might change its override behavior in the
content.

Would it make sense to organize the list by relative level in the document
hierarchy? For example, <section> is probably not used as often as <p>,
which is not used as often as its allowed child elements. So by inverting
that list, the most common ones might conceivably be the easiest to pick
from, at least initially (as the history-based list is being built). The
nice thing is that this can be inferred from the Schemas at the time the
document is opened--it does not require anyone's definition work through a
sidefile, for example, that defines which is block and which is inline
(information that is not automatically available an

At the moment, all elements that are legal at a particular point are
shown in one long alphabetically ordered list.

Why not split this list into two lists, one for block elements like
<p>, and the other for embeddable elements, like <i>? In the case of
DITA documens, you might even colour the backgrounds behind the
latter by domain.

This way, the structural elements would be largely separated from the
'formatting' elements. By the way, I like the way that frequently
inserted elements float to the top of the list in bold whence they
can be inserted quickly with the Alt key shortcut.

Hedley
