<pre>Hi all,

as most of you probably know from my invitation email, I decided to consolidate all three Poedit mailing lists into one and move it to Google Groups. SF.net's mailing list hosting is plagued with spam issues that still require manual moderation, have poor admin UI and archives; all of this is implemented much better by Google Groups.

This is the last post to these mailing lists; if you didn't join the Poedit group already, please do it now if you are interested in Poedit emails.

The group's email address is poedit-/JYPxA39Uh5TLH3MbocFFw&lt; at &gt;public.gmane.org and you can subscribe, manage your subscription or search the archive at http://groups.google.com/group/poedit

Thanks,
Vaclav

And i have one issue not resolved.

Listed as a feature on poedit.net:

You can use Poedit to scan source code for translatable strings.

I am not able to include the comments about translatable strings

like: /* translators: use the verb publish here */

If i want this included in poedit catalogs, do i have to use xgettext?

Thanks

For starters, that should be

print _('This is %(OUHH)s a translatable string.') % locals()

because _()'s argument can only be a _string literal_. Then you, well, translate it, preserving special stuff like %(...). That's a bit of gettext fundamentals, I believe you'll find that any manual or tutorial for your (unspecified) language's binding explains all that in detail.

[poedit-users] 80-character line and source merging

<pre>Hi,

I am using Poedit when working on a TeX Live's project. I have two small problems which are described by Mojca Miklavec at
  http://tug.org/pipermail/tldoc/2011q2/000382.html
In short:

(1) Poedit splits the sources; for example, the string
   #: texmf/scripts/texlive/tlmgrgui.pl:605 texmf/scripts/texlive/tlmgrgui.pl:607
becomes
   #: texmf/scripts/texlive/tlmgrgui.pl:605
   #: texmf/scripts/texlive/tlmgrgui.pl:607

(2) Poedit merges multiple lines into a single line; for example,
"this is the first line "
   "this is the second line"

will be joined as
"this is the first line this is the second line"

I don't know the reason of these features, while they are a bit annoyed at my box: The features modify the format of the original .po file, hence I have some difficulties when viewing differences (e.g, by "git diff") or merging my translating onto other works in repository. Gtranslator, for example, doesn't behave as Poedit: it simply keeps the original format, so merging would be easier when workin</pre>

Well, you don't say what's in there... In fact, there's more that you forgot to say: http://www.poedit.net/trac/wiki/HowtoReportBugs

I'm afraid it's impossible to say anything useful given the lack of information here. Running Poedit under a debugger would probably help. Failing that, everything necessary to reproduce it on another computer (as explained in the link above) or access to your computer would help. But there's nothing I can do if I can't see the bug...

<pre>Hi,

I'm trying to make a new catalog...

Settings
project name and version : english 1.0
team : jfl
team's email address : jfl-Tq0wv22+Kx5Je3RvUNqT79HuzzzSOjJt&lt; at &gt;public.gmane.org
language : english

Paths
base path : ~/www/mueangchiangrai.net/en
Paths : .

Keywords :
gettext
__
_e

After filling in the info poedit sets off to make the catalog... and
never comes back. I have to kill it by hand. Maybe there are too many
files in the directory?

I started off with just gettext and my own editor... and I got the
thing working. Now I want to add new strings... but I've forgotten all
I ever knew about gettext (not much) and hoped that poedit would make
it so I didn't have to return to primitives... but so far no luck.

Any advice appreciated.
