phrase defeats the limitations of the language, that jan Sonja
has set up in order to have clear definition of "who wants what"

100% agreed. I am very happy to hear such an opinion, while prevailing in the internet comments are from two extreme camps:
"idioms are not acceptable in tokipona, you need to construct meaning each time in context" and "tokipona require idiom dictionary".


I was intending "meaning of word phrases is interesting".
But this should probably had been:
'sona pi kulupu nimi li musi tawa mi'

As a person who has tried to write a book of this sort, I can assure you that early optimistic guess about how long it will take are sure to be overly optimistic and , as the project goes along, the time to the end seems to get ever longer and longer.  But eventually it comes, hopefully not too late to help 

and not much after the time given in the last guess (authors tend to stop guessing after a while).  o awen e pilin pona tawa jan Sonja en lipu ona.

   I have been waiting in anticipation for nearly a year now for the release of the "toki pona book" and I am just curious, has anyone heard anything new about when it is going to be made available?

Translation of 'TP in 76 Illustrated Lessons' into English

I have attempted to translate Eliazar Parra Cardenas  'TP in 76 Illustrated Lessons' from Spanish into English. You can download my translation at this URL:

My Spanish is practically non-existant (I relied heavily on Google's translation tools, so there may be better translations in English) and I am just learning TP, so all comments and corrections are welcome. I tried to keep the English translation as close to Eliazar's original text as possible. If anyone has the time or inclination, the following lessons in particular could stand a review:
37 - pata
43 - kan
56, 57, 58 - seme
71, 72 - la
and 50 - numbers - I know luka has been deprecated, but I like to use it for 5 as well.

I was a bit lazy at the end and substituted a TP to English dictionary in the appendix, instead of translating the TP to Spanish dictionary. I hope this is ok.

Changes to Pije's site

As some have noticed, I've made a few changes to my site lately:

I have released all of my content into the public domain. I made this decision because of moral concerns and because of my deeply-held political convictions (I am an anarcho-capitalist). Almost all of the pages now have a white background. This looks more fashionable than the black backgrounds used in the past. Some of the pages also have newer, more aesthetic artwork.

I may make other changes to the site in the future, potentially including a rewrite of the "o kama sona e toki pona!" lessons. I will post an announcement if I decide to make such changes.

Thanks! There is a longer paper on semantic primes (aUI, NSM, toki pona, the Swadesh list, Esperanto, and Lojban) over at the LCC1 site at conlangs.org (I think).  It needs a bit of revising and purifying, but covers the essentials pretty much.

I like the idea of reducing language to a form that's as simple as possible, while it still can handle a broad range of meanings and concepts. Topki Pona is so very simple that

So putting the location (hospital) immediately after the word tawa is better because then I don't have to use tawa again later?  I remember reading somewhere that tawa tawa is absorbed into a single tawa.
