ID/ENTITY

monochrom's festival on sex and tech and id/entities.
October 3-6, 2013 in San Francisco.

Call for talks, performances, workshops, games, machines.
Deadline for submissions: July 15, 2013

Sex, technology, identity... big-ass sweeping themes for Arse Elektronika 2013.

Identity, but also identification. Technologies for the exploration
of identities. Technologies for the articulation and performance of
identities. Technologies for the enforcement of hegemonic identities.
Technologies for the verification of identities. For example: What
about the vast fencing-off of the old wild internet; the #nym-wars
and the push for "real names"?

We typically assume there is 'something' that takes and/or performs
an identity. What is this entity? Are awareness and consciousness
strictly limited to and made sense of in human experience alone? How
is identity understood and made sense of in terms of artificial
intelligence? What might tran

Session sponsored by the Society of Historians of East European,

Panel co-chairs: Masha Chlenova, The Museum of Modern Art; and Kristin

Whether conceptualized in terms of a periphery or an alternative center,
narratives of Russian and Eastern European art have long been organized
around a binary of East and West, shaped both by art history's
disciplinary biases and by the politics of the Cold War and "fall of
communism." This panel takes Partha Mitter's argument in "Decentering

Aside from the sonic side, there is also the bold visuals by Gergo Szinyova. Here we asked them about the ins and outs of their imprint, and most importantly, you can listen to the music, as mixed by one of the label founders and artist Gábor Lazár.

Mckenzie Wark in Conversation with Montgomery Cantsin

http://www.furtherfield.org/features/interviews/mckenzie-wark-conversation-montgomery-cantsin

Since the Nineties (at least), Mckenzie Wark has been writing critical
texts that have raised the bar in countless conversations regarding
networked culture, “weird global media events,” the philosophy of open
source, game theory, and so on. He’s also been known for his active and
ongoing engagement with a certain body of ideas associated with the
Situationist International (S.I.)–a coalition of subversive thinkers and
doers who coalesced in Europe around 1957 (to drift, drink, and détourn).

In spite of everything having already turned to shit, Wark kindly met
with Brooklyn’s Montgomery Cantsin on the 16th of May, 2013, in
Manhattan. Prior to a show and tell–of Wark’s 3D-printed Guy Debord

metagraphic tattoo (from a design by Isidore

We stand helpless before the corporate onslaught. There is
no way to vote against corporate power. Citizens have no way
to bring about the prosecution of Wall Street bankers and
financiers for fraud, military and intelligence officials
for torture and war crimes, or security and surveillance
officers for human rights abuses. The Federal Reserve is
reduced to printing money for banks and financiers and
lending it to them at almost zero percent interest;
corporate officers then lend it to us at usurious rates as
high as 30 percent. I do not know what to call this system.
It is certainly not capitalism. Extortion might be a better
word. The fossil fuel industry, meanwhile, relentlessly
trashes the ecosystem for profit. The melting of 40 percent
of the summer Arctic sea ice is, to corporations, a business
opportunity. Companies rush to the Arctic and extract the
last vestiges of oil, natural gas, minerals and fish stocks,
indifferent to the death pangs of the planet.

Hello!

I invite you to discover a new practice for art video:
the "graff video".

The camera is handled as a spray paint can with light as pictorial material. A
transdisciplinary approach where the images provide a new form to the narration.
More information on this approach:

You can access some videos from the menu at right of the page
http://graff.video.free.fr/en/videos.htm
Thank you to share this new practice around you!

If you make a link or write an article on a blog or a website, let me know, I
will make a return link.

I am at your disposal if you want further details.

*Audiopantalla MACBA Disco Rave: concert series with EVOL, Mark Fell and

Audioscreen MACBA brings together three projects presenting new relations
between image and sound. In the current technological and cultural context,
they recover the experimental tradition around multisensory creation. On
this occasion the programme transcends the two-dimensionality of the screen
and *reproduces the spatial and audiovisual codification of the disco*, a
key contemporary musical device and one of the main relational spaces of
late capitalism. Guest performers this year are Roc Jiménez de Cisneros,
Mark Fell and Lorenzo Senni, three artists who base their work on the
*deconstruction
and reconfiguration of the sounds of electronic dance music* of the last
two decades.

The continuity and interdependence of sound and visual elements and the
displacement of reception from the ear to the entire body are two of the
main characteristics of discos. We are dealing with a ‘post-scenographic’
sign space that ac

Glitch As Symbolic Form

Rob Myers takes us on a short historical journey of Glitch as an
aesthetic signifier of technological presence that dates back at least
to the 1980s. Referencing the Vaught-Kampf machine in Blade Runner
(1982), the titular character in Max Headroom (1985). And how the use of
Glitch as an artistic aesthetic in itself has accelerated with the
democratisation of new technologies.

Iman Issa was born in Cairo. When she moved to New York, where she now
lives and works, Iman started to reflect on her relationship to familiar
figures, events and places. She wondered how an artist can represent a
specific city from a collection of images of everyday places. This idea
came from her early pieces, which were based on personal memory and how it
relates to urban and political representations, such as memorials.

In 2012 Iman won the first Han Nefkens-MACBA Contemporary Art Award. Her
work has also been shown in the New Museum in New York, the KW in Berlin,
the Contemporary Image Collective in Cairo and the Tate Modern in London.

In this podcast Iman Issa taks about memory and language through her
artistic objects. But also through the path she has followed from her
earlier works to her

Piksel Remote Hacklab: Experimental Communication System Open Workshop,

Free 2-day workshop, Venice, May 28-29th, 12pm-late.

Recent studies have shown that the electrical resistance in soil above a
buried carcass has a different resistivity to that of near by soil due
to the decomposition of bodily tissue. The body leaves a "real",
quantifiable electrical trace when it is dead. Following this idea that
traces of the dead can be measured via electricity it may be possible
that these traces can be found elsewhere such as in the electromagnetic
field.

In this workshop the construction of various electronic devices which
apparently enhance the possibility of communication with spirits both
audibly and visibly will be undertaken. Attempts at direct
electromagnetic induction from such a vitalist earth to human brain will
be made in the construction of a diy earth-brain interface, along with
devices such as the Germanium Trans-Dimensional Communication Receptor
(TDC) and other EMF detectors, emitters
