For the fourth year, Barnard College, the most sought-after women’s college in the nation, will celebrate women’s leadership both on and off-screen at the Athena Film Festival, scheduled to take place from February 6-9, 2014.
The Festival aims to expand the definition of what it means to be a female leader, highlighting the many ways that women can and do make a difference. The weekend program exhibits a wide range of cinema including Academy Award-nominated films, top tier features, documentaries, and shorts. The Festival’s audiences are invited to engage in conversations with directors, writers, and producers that challenge convention and examine leadership with a new lens.

Note
This retrospective is a
celebration of the spirit of experimentation in Indian cinema from the moment
of its mythic birth with Phalke’s RajaHarishchandra in 1913 to the innovative and challenging moving
images been produced and exhibited today in 2013. The curatorial impetus of the
festival is marked by an emphasis at tracing the chronology of experimentation
through history of Indian cinema. This retrospective halts at pit stops of
radical moments of experimentation.

The idea of “experimentation” drives the films put together in this
retrospective. The conceptual rubric of the term experiment in this show draws
its theoretical genealogy from Gandhian “Experiments with Truth” rather than
western art historical lineage of the term ‘experimental

Your WorldView is pleased to announce a fantastic new partnership with the Scottish Documentary Institute as part of our new season on the theme of 'Home', launching on the 20th June.
As a precursor to the launch of our 'Home' season, Your WorldView and the Scottish Documentary Institute are offering one lucky filmmaker the opportunity to be funded £1000 for their pitch on the theme of 'Home'. Based on the success of our 'Thought for Food' season's tweet-a-pitch, we are looking for a tweeted pitch of up to 140-characters in length which not only centers around the theme of 'Home', but also includes content that is relevant to international or development issues. Each film can only be between 3-5 minutes in length.
In addition to the £1,000 grant, the Scottish Documentary Institute are also offering £1,000 worth of mentorship to the winning project; making this an exclusive opportunity for any filmmaker.
When?
Pitches will be accepted from the 10th June, closing one week later on the 17th. Tweets must inc

Statement condemning false charges against Kerala activists

Thank you for your signatures. Here is the final statement

We the undersigned strongly condemn the blatant attempt by the Kerala
police to intimidate five colleagues from the field of film and media by
filing fabricated cases against them for 'rioting', 'unlawful assembly'
and 'public obstruction' (IPC Sections 143, 147, 149 and 283 ). These
five individuals- K.P.Sasi, noted filmmaker and activist, I.
Shanmukhadas, film critic, Prasannakumar T.N., film activist, Shafeek,
journalist and Deepak, filmmaker and film society activist- were
participating in a peaceful protest on February 11 at Thrissur, Kerala,
along with many others, outside the venue of the Vibgyor Film Festival
2013 against the concept of capital punishment and the summary execution
of Afzal Guru. The peaceful protest which lasted for an hour, in no way
disturbed public order or caused communal unrest. For this act of
democratic expression, these fraudulent and trumped charges have been
filed against them.

It is indeed shocking t
