I did a re-install of PPro, which was probably needless. Also, I turned UAC off and now screen bumps are working fine. And yes, Hide/SaveIcons is non-functioning.

I'm guessing you're either not running Win/64-bit, or the things that require dll upgrades aren't ones that you personally use that much.

But, just guessing.

Anyway, thanks for getting back to me so quickly, and thanks for upgrading the context menu function dll.

<pre>Screen bumps work for me regardless of whether screen icons are showing (I am assuming you are using regular aero desktop and win 7 look -- it may not work in other circumstances).

You should make sure you are testing with only PPro running in case it is interference from other programs.

Yes, these are broken and won't be fixed. In general, there are features that involved reverse engineering and hacking into Windows data structures, which are broken in PowerPro running 64 bit windows. Hide/Save icons is one, interacting with other programs tray icons is another. Task bar position is one as well. Fixing these would require a 64 bit version of ppro.dll.

Task bar bars would also require a 64 bit upgrade to a different dll.

However, the context menu function dll has been upgraded to 64 bits and so this still works.

Most of the other broken things are due to the increased security of Win 7, eg *mouse and key recording.

No plans for future fixes or changes, so if there is no fix described in the help,</pre>

I should have been more specific on the point below: i.e., bumping works as long as the desktop is set to ShowIcons. When set to HideIcons, then bumping doesn't work.

Also, [Save desktop icons] and [Restore desktop icons] doesn't work.

<pre>I'm new to Win7 but a longtime user of PowerPro.

So far, I've noticed a couple problems:
•  bumping the side of the screen to bring up a set of buttons doesn't work;
• using the *Mouse command to move the mouse pointer to a given position doesn't work.

I've just begun the process of adjusting my config file to accommodate my new version of Windows and specifically, my new screen size. And while the above two problems aren't show-stoppers, it would be great if there are any solutions.

Also, I'm concerned about finding other things that may no longer work correctly.

I wonder if there is something basic I should know about or do to optimized PowerPro working as best it can with Windows 7. If anyone can provide any direction, I'm all ears (urh, rather, *eyes* !)

Thanks ahead of time for whatever help might be provided.

Regards,

<pre>I'm afraid I don't know anything about Windows desktops or how they would interact with PowerPro.

You don't mention in your post whether simple things like clicking on bars still work. If so, I would guess there is a problem with PowerPro hooks being de-activated (required for detecting screen bump). What does configure restart or rehook do?

<pre>I'm beta testing an app which can create and switch to other-than-default desktops. I can start a second PowerPro on a newly created desktop and it works OK. When I terminate it (via Exit PowerPro on a button) and return to the default desktop, there's still a PowerPro running (I presume the original one). But it's not working. That is, my one (and only) bar doesn't slide up from the bottom as it should.

Tips on running PowerPro on multiple desktops would be appreciated.

Thanks.

and create a screen corner hot key which executes .toggledesktop().

<pre>This script will use the toggledesktop feature of win7. But I find minshowWndows more effective for what I do, since, in my tests, toggledesktop gets confused if I launch from the desktop while windows are hidden.

By the way, the screen corner hotkeys are your best bet if you want something that behaves close to the hot corner in windows. You could even start an event which untoggles the desktop (by running the script again) when the event fires and the mouse is far from any corner. (If you don't do this, you have to move the mouse away from the corner then back to reshow desktop).

local com_status, com_type
static objShell
if (not objShell) do
objShell = com.create_object("shell.application")
objShell.ToggleDesktop
else
    objShell.ToggleDesktop
    objShell.Release
    ObjShell = ""
endif

local com_status, com_type
static objShell
// com.error_dialog_on()
if (not objShell)
objShell = com.create_object("shell.application")
objShell.ToggleDesktop

Note that you cannot release the com object without losing its memory of whether or not the desktop is hidden.

(You could introduce a second static variable which itself was toggled [var = not var] and release the object every second call as well as setting objShell to "", as long as you only used PowerPro do toggledesktop.)

This actually seems less useful the minshowall, since, in my tests at least, it gets confused if you launch something from desktop while viewing it.

If you wanted to simulate the windows ability of showing the desktop just by moving your mouse to a certain place, a screen corner hot key would come close.

<pre>
There is
desktop showminall
which minimizes the currenlty visible windows, and then shows them again the next time you execute the command (which should be soon after).

If you mean the win 7 show desktop button, PowerPro cannot directly access it. It may be possible using the com plugin and the toggledesktop method supplied bythe IShellDispatch4

<pre>

You are right. Now sure why I did that, except to say it is very old code which was written before multiple Windows monitors, or at least before I new about how they worked.

You might be able to work around using the win plugin
win.yourcommand(mainhandlefrompoint(xmouse, ymouse))
I have not tested.

Same reason for defect. You should be able to work around with a script associated with an autorun (new windows opening) which matches all windows (ie caption list *), gets the current coordinates, and decides which monitor to open the new window on. I think the win plugin can get a list of current monitors and their screen extents.

All standard windows stuff, with just a few tricks based on reverse engineering the windows internal data structure (many of which are now broken in 64 bit windows -- eg accessing tray icons from other programs)
