It looks that going with 3.0 (native), as I mentioned several responses
earlier, might be an acceptable workaround if you want to get the latest
git source working.

For sawfish it is a sad situation that it have no maintainer who
updated sawfish in debian. Many other dists use debians packages
and the most have also only sawfish 1.5.XXX with bugs
(lost windows in sawfish, panel disappears ...) fix for a
long time. If sawfish don't find someone which maintain the debian
packages, the most people think after try sawfish as windowmanager
it is very buggy and remove/try a other.

was acting really buggy. The only way I could get it to work was running it
as root. Rather than watching the bug reports to see when the maintainers
fix the buggy actions of fakeroot, I just got in the habit of running it as
root. It is like when I am running command line as su and want to return to
normal user. I don't use 'exit', I use 'su' and the user name I want to
switch into. It is also possible I do it that way because I am not Dutch.

<pre>hi folks,

Debian packaging of the sawfish packages is really simple. Chris has
already debianized the packages so basically all you have to do is:

download the git source
cd in the package
run 'autogen.sh' as normal user
run 'dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot' as root (su or sudo)

I just noticed that wheezy has a new gcc (4.7) as well as a new dpkg that
were upload to the repositories this last weekend. Hopefully this will
solve some of my problems building debs. Good luck and have fun :)

<pre>I have a bit of experience with DEB packaging, and would like to
volunteer to maintain packaging compatible with Debian and Ubuntu.

When I have time, hopefully in the next two weeks, I'll try to get an
up-to-date repository set up on Alioth (debian repo server). I
currently have a guest account there, for some .NET packaging work I
did earlier. Typically Debian likes to maintain their own repo's for
the packaging (/debian directory), from which upstream tarballs are
imported. Once working we can request a sync with Ubuntu. And perhaps
a PPA can go up also.

Whoever has packaging experience and would like to assist please raise
your hand. I might run in to some problems that I could use a hand
with.

Cheers,

I was (and partly still I am) in a very comparable situation.

Those curious might want to have look at the photo I
uploaded to the sawfish wiki today here:
 http://sawfish.wikia.com/wiki/File:GroessenVergleich_mit_ipad_und_iphone.jpg
The MultiHD monitor desk shown there is currently displayed in
our company booth at the fair DRUPA 2012 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Only a few days before start of the fair I decided to compile
sawfish (1.8.92), rep-gtk (0.90.8) and librep (0.92.2) and put
it onto a fresh Linux Mint 12 install. Since I was in a hurry
and had not much experience with Debian package building I decided
to do a simple installation into /usr/local .

Because I need to get work done, I'm just installing LinuxMint. But

<pre>Hi, Julio. I'm Teika, a retired developer of Sawfish.

If your window group consists of a window class, then you can
use "window rules". Read KEYBIDINGS in the source tarball.

If not, it's a bit complicated, but try
(ungrab-keymap your-keymap)
(grab-keymap your-keymap)

Explanation: I don't remember the exact mechanism, but setting the
keymap by window-put is not sufficient (sorry, undocumented). What
window-put does is a pure lisp matter, but you have to register keys
in X. If you want to read the source ;-), see KEYBINDING, src/keys.c,
wm.keymap.

problem with building from 3.0 (native). Unfortunately it doesn't solve the
problem when building from 3.0 (git). I'm not going to go with the 3.0
(native) option because it is too messy and wasn't meant to be run this way
therefore an incorrect build is possible. I cloned a new copy of librep,
ran autogen.sh then ran dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot. The same errors that
I originally had are still there even with a deprecated libtool. Nice catch
with the libtool though. I had completely forgotten that the last time I
built packages was on a squeeze/wheezy hybrid and when I upgraded to a
wheezy distribution I just used my old packages. Still can't build from the
git source at this time though.

<pre>Hi,

Latest try was to change debian/source/format from 3.0 (git) to 3.0
(native) from the librep 0.92.2 source file in xz format file. I made this
attempt to prove to myself that it was not the new git that debian wheezy
installed several weeks ago that was the problem. Still can't create a deb
but I am fairly sure it is not the new git version causing the problem.

Downloaded the .xz file for latest librep.
Ran dh_make to create an orig.tar.gz for librep.
Ran ./autogen.sh
Ran dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot

versions gcc 4.6.3 and libtool 2.4.2

output:

<pre>Hi,

I ran a git pull using git-cola an received the following output:

From git://git.tuxfamily.org/gitroot/librep/main

= [up to date] master -&gt; origin/master

= [up to date] branch-0-13 -&gt; origin/branch-0-13

= [up to date] branch_0-11 -&gt; origin/branch_0-11

= [up to date] librep-0.17 -&gt; origin/librep-0.17

= [up to date] master-UNNAMED-BRANCH -&gt; origin/master-UNNAMED-BRANCH

Already up-to-date.

Could the UNNAMED-BRANCH be the reason for my error?

keymap resets for window / sharing input with window group

<pre>
Hey everyone.

I've been using sawfish for a while, and I've begun reading it's source
code.
Playing around with it, I've been trying to write a small function to
share a window's input with the assigned window group.

My approach is:

1) write a function that sends the input (keyboard event) to the same
window group
 something like:

 (map-window-group
 (lambda (window) (synthesize-event "a" window))
 (nth 7 (managed-windows)))

worked for test purposes (it sent an "a" input to the same window
group as the 7th window managed by sawfish...)

2) write a keymap (which is the only to get all the input from a window
right?) and bind it's keys to a function like the one above (for test
purposes for the time being, doing the same thing: putting "a" for
example in all the windows in the group)

3) assign the keymap to that window using the (window-put)
 function. Like this:

 (window-put (nth 7 (managed-windows)) 'keymap window-group-keymap)

I ask for your opinion/advice/suggestions with thi</pre>
