I remember when running gentoo a few years ago and keeping it fairly bleeding edge.
I would run into strange issue like this when not restarting the app after it's been updated.

I am baffled. The fact that you can still interact with the window is
*also* a symptom of Java swing apps. But if you have an up-to-date
Konsole (and your version info confirms that) and it's still
happening, then that is odd.

Here are some threads to pull. I'm not at all confident that any will
lead to anything fruitful:

- xrestop is useless here. Maybe useful for a toolkit dev, but not for
a user debugging on their own.

- Try experimenting more with the number of windows you have open.
Start with a clean environment and try to re-create the problem by
opening N Qt windows. When that happens, see if you can get back to
normal by removing windows.

- If you can do the above, try experimenting with different kinds of
apps. Can you reproduce with just Konsole windows?

- Try opening lots of windows that use GTK and see if you can
reproduce the problem.

- Try older versions of konsole/qt/Psi if possible.

- File a bug against Qt (or try to find an IRC channel). Use data
gathered from above.

- Try a differ

It is quite typical to see visual quirks from apps in environments
with a lightweight DE or no DE at all if your GTK and Qt
configurations are not set up correctly. I suspect this was the "conflict"
that 52midnight was referring to.

However, such conflicts don't typically manifest themselves as blank
windows. It's usually in the form of ugliness.

Could you please provide more information?

- What version of Qt is `kont` using?
- Is this happening with other Qt windows? Or just `kont`?
- What version of Openbox?
- What version of X?
- Any compositing managers running?

I've only seen the kind of behavior you're experiencing in
applications using some variant of Java swing, so I am quite puzzled
to see this from Qt.

I don't understand what 'conflict' you're talking about. These are just
windows, man. Just widgets from different toolkits.
That particular window is from Psi. Psi isn't about KDE or about Gnome.
It's just Psi, like Switzerland. They may be speaking German, but this
doesn't mean that they were fighting for Nazi during WWII.

When I was using KDE I've never saw a FF window rebelling against kwin,
and it's written using gtk, if that's what you mean.

Thanks.

I've asked on a LXDE forum too, but got no answer.
After I restart X or exit/enter LXDE this issue is gone for some time,

a <size> tag doesn't exist. It isn't possible (as far as I know) with
per-app setting to start a application with default width&height
(something along these lines is the <maximized> tag). Which application
do you want to start? Maybe your application has own geometry settings?

I've already tried with the <size> tag in the per-app settings (found on the web) but it seems to not work (I don't event know if it's a existing tag).

So, it's possible to make a default width&height for a per-app setting?

Thank you

I've added this mouse bindings
<mouse>
<context name="Frame">
    <mousebind button="Left" action="Press">
        <action name="RaiseLower"/>
    </mousebind>
</context>
</mouse>

So, when I click on the QT app in the background it stay in the back.

Now I need to set a default size for a window, and that's seems to be another problem with that!

Hmm, so is it possible to set the Qt app to always be on bottom? Or am
I being too simple? Sorry, I'm not familiar with gst-launch.

No solution?
I'm in an embedded environment, I've only 2 app, a QT application in fullscreen mode and a gst-launch application that have to show a video over the QT app.

If it's not possible to make an "alwaysOnTop" on certain window maybe it's possible to tell openbox to handle only the gst-launch window an no other window? I need openbox because it's the only method to put the gst-launch window where I want it.

Fluxbox is able to make what I want, but I cannot instal it by now...

Regards

the Layer tag doesn't work, I mean, it work until I click on another window.
I've a FS application running and I want to open another window on top of this one, but I need to interoperate with the FS application and mantain the other window in foreground.

The second window is launched from the FS application and I need to keep it visible until I destroy it from the FS app.

Re my difficulties with the Openbox Main Menu, it appears that LXDE has
its own tools. Got this from the LXDE forum:

http://lxlinux.com/

Still investigating, but thought it might be useful for others using LXDE.

I believe you will be running X inside wayland when that does happen.

Thanks for the explanation. As Opnebox is my desktop of choice by a long way,
it's bit depressing if people do move to wayland en-masse :(
