I didnt say that I'm talking about pwm3 not ion3, that I think confused You. In ion its not problem becouse u have always frame you can attach to tagged windows/regions by "META+K"+"A" ( or whatever you defined). In pwm3 you have to specific object where you want to attach it. I get what i wanted to in pwm by

local function tagged_move(obj)
local region=WMPlex.mx_current(obj)
ioncore.tagged_attach(region)
end

runed in WScreen section.

thanks, WMPlex.dec_index WMPlex.inc_index works exactly i want to, but again in pwm i had to speific correct region and wmplex.

What do you mean by rearanging?

* If you want to switch order of tabs, then there is function

* If yoy want to add and move some splits, just do it manually and save

If you want such workspace to be created "dynamically", then you can

Note that I did not ever tried that. I just created one workspace

its me again :). Let say that i tagged few windows on some workspaces, i moved to another one and i want all tagged windows moved here. Simple function which do it is

local function tagged_move(group)
   local region=WMPlex.attach_new(group,{type="WGroupWS",name="name",...})
   ioncore.tagged_attach(region)
end

it works ok when destination ws is empty, problems appears when its not. I think the nice way to do it woild be by using 'ioncore.tagged_first(true)' or 'ioncore.tagged_i()' but first one some how doesnt want to return tagged region. Im sure that there is some extremely simple solution for it so if somebody knows it pls help.

My second question is if it's possible to rearange WS and how to do it?. Till now i havent had enough time to think about it but it wold be nice possibility

Best Regards

Second "R" should be pressed also with META in your example.

occur in "safe environment" -- being triggered by some event.

As Etan said you have to use a SM or other personal tricks to only
launch / restore the apps you need.
Once your layout frames have names, and you know your favorite apps'
names and classes via xprop, you can setup kludges.

You can find examples for kludges.lua files on the Net:
 http://aperiodic.net/phil/configs/ion2/kludges.lua
 http://daelstorm.thegraveyard.org/ion2/ion2.html

Some apps may or may not have X names and classes, or they may be duplicate.
The typical example is emacs : if you want to open several windows in
different places,
you have to set command-line args to set them. The kludges then work as a charm.

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Right, application information isn't saved.

You need a session manager (and SM aware applications) to have
applications automatically saved and restored.

Getting applications to start in the correct frames when they do start up
(manually or automatically) requires winprops/kludges be set up (as was
previously mentioned).

Both versions save workspaces' layouts to lua files, when doing clean exits.
IIRC both provide with a menu option to save / load workspaces in that file.

~/.ion2/default-session/workspaces.lua
~/.ion3/default-session--0/saved_layout.lua

What I did was saving the layouts I like then removing write
authorizations on that file with chmod so it wouldn't get overriden on
exit.

Happy tiling,

The workspaces shouldn't be a problem, just do a "clean exit" or
save the session manually (ioncore.snapshot()).

Having applications start in the "right" frame is another problem

Would it be possible to merge with Notion, or are there strong
philosophical or architectural differences here?

I'm concerned that forking the code in two different directions
will lead to
   a) confusion for everyone
   b) bugfixes of one not going into the other

I would prefer if Notion and Anion provided different make
configurations to provide their different feature sets (if
that's wanted), rather than forking the base, which would
benefit from having both developers maintain it together.

Aside from the mailinglist, there is a #notion IRC channel - not very active,

Uh, what repository are you looking at?

The notion repo is can be found at sourceforge git,

It has the full ion history, some patches, and I actually checked in a bugfix

    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Hi,
Excerpts from Arnout Engelen's message of Sat Nov 13 11:44:11 +0100 2010:

Erm, sorry for badmouthing the project then - I based my comments on

http://code.google.com/p/notion/

which is quite dead, I had no idea there's a fairly active SourceForge project
of the same name.

ciao,
