I checked out the cpsskins for paris-sprint-2006 release 3610. I am currently
looking at the recent macromedia flash demos and trying to implement some of the
features. It seems to me that a lot of the flash demos showcase a different
cpsskins release version.

Why does the "Portlet perspectives" version differ from the "Using and reusing
settings" cpsskins version?

The portlets button in the 3610 release cannot be moved and prevents me from
adding portlets to the bottom left part of my page layout. I like the "Using
and reusing settings" cpsskins version better than the 3610 release version.
How can I checkout that release version?

Thanks

Hi JM. Sure, I'll put some questions together for you so we can schedule
a chat. I'd be grateful since I have been following this development for
some time. I am very keen to learn more. Can you tell me whether the
sprint will result in changes to the python version or will it geared to
the java version only. Can you advise whether development of cpsskins
for python has ended?

Yes, I think I understand the tableless issue somewhat but chatting with
you will hopefully increase my understanding of the rendering so that I
can work to achieve what I wish. Besides the warning messages, certain
portlets do not appear with tableless engine (likely something I am
doing). I am going to be constructing some new portlets over the next
couple of days so will begin to see first hand the issues involved
(which may lead to other questions). Probably need to ask you how you
are dealing with debugging also. I had been experimenting with your
example portlets up to now. Many thanks.

Regards,
David

Hi

can you gather the questions, and we have chat under the week? there's a
sprint next week and design issues are always interesting to get
feedback on.

not all of the features are implemented though. I'm not sure about
warning messages. It could simply be that they should be on an "debug"
level. Only the layout elements (cell, and page blocks) are to be
translated into tableless equivalents. Usually portlet widgets do not
use tables anyway. And when they do, often it is OK since tables do
represent tabular data. The tricky part to achieve in tableless mode
really is the page layout.

best

Hi JM. My apologies for all the queries. I have managed to deal with the
base css and title rendering but I may still need a couple of hints on
tableless portlets. Do you have a tableless portlet for testing that I
may examine its design that will not emit the warnings I am receiving?

BTW, read your article on z3ecm. Very interesting and you make several
excellent points. For myself, I enjoy that zope is not so absolute. I am
good to live with translucent framework that is happy to blend with the
language or provide some excellent packaging opportunities with virtualy
unlimited flexibility. Perhaps I miss the point of an IDE, but I am
satisfied and at home with my favorite editor and svn. Many thanks.

David

Hi JM. I have identified tableless engine in site manager for url and
getting tableless pageblock_frame - yay. I am getting warnings emitted
from my portlets on rendering, however:

2006-09-23T13:55:31 WARNING cpsskins The element
<ecm.cpsskins.example7.portlet.NewsPortlet object at 0x51759f0> cannot
be rendered by the tableless engine.

Attempted to modify my example rss portlet by changing template
structure to <div> 's instead of <table etc. in the template and added
engine="tableless" to the widget directive. Still getting same warning
message on rendering. I must be missing something .... and need another
hint I think. It would be great to schedule a chat since I think most of
my issues could likely be resolved easily. Many thanks.

David

Hi. Thank you for this. I will co revision 3608 and report what I see. I

newer revision?

excellent :-) !! Thank you for your help.

I have to say I need a couple of hints on settings in the site manager.
I have set url for specific theme/page but it seems to continue to use
the default so I may have a couple of questions here.

Would it be possible to schedule a chat on msn messenger with you some
time in the next few days. I could put up a demo site of some kind and
give you access to admin so you could see my settings. I'd really
appreciate this since I am really hope to use cpsskins.

I am also curious about any global css that could be incorporated since
it is very granular (which is good also) but it might be nice to be able
to at least provide a base css to provide some fairly immediate results.
Lastly, the title of my pages displays "CPS Skins for Zope 3". Where
will I change this to reflect the content on a page by

It could be that the UI changed since that?

the revision that I have is 3608 at:
https://svn.z3lab.org/z3lab/cpsskins/branches/paris-sprint-2006

the portlet factory menu was moved to to bottom left of the screen and
is called "Add a portlet"

the idea is that you register widgets by specifying the engine type that
you want to use (for instance the "tableless" engine).

if a widget is marked as engine="tableless" it will be used in tableless
mode otherwise the default widget will be used:

see: cpsskins/standard/filters/widget/widgets.zcml

for instance:

  <widget
      name="standard.pageblock_frame"
      title="Page block frame"
      view=".widgets.TablelessPageBlockFrame"
      for="cpsskins.standard.ds.html.IHTML"
      engine="tableless"
