There are always ways to improve: e.g. you could have a
test environment for "plone.org" -- with essentially the same
setup as the productive "plone.org" (and copied databases,
when the test starts). And you could use
this environment to make the "plone.org" tests, before the
actual release.

Andreas should understand this argument. When I pointed out an
obvious bug/weakness in his "TextIndexNG3" (several years ago),
he answered "you get what you have paid for" ;-)

Maybe, he can also convince the large institution administrators
that services without fees may not provide the same "quality"
than those for which the institutions pay a significant amount
of anual fees.

Why don't you just use the form fields you need? And not try to get at
everything in request.form?

Sorry, I figured it out. Just me not understanding. I didn't realize I had to be in directory bootstrap.py resided in. Thanks Daniel for the original answer and Nathan for reiterating. Maybe one day, I'll get this stuff sorted out!

And yes Plone upgraded fine after I got zc.buildout figured.

It seems like you should be able to do something like:

/home/plonedev/Plone/Python-2.7/bin/python bootstrap -v 1.7.1

I tried to iterate form fields to join some fields values. I find that the follow line of code causes "insufficient privilege error"

for key, value in form.iteritems():

where, form = request.form

I think request.form should be a dictionary. But why it causes error? Do I need to import some package?

Thanks,

We have used custom products directories (different directory for different Plone version) for security updates for some time now. We "had to invent" it to make it possible for **anyone available** to just unpack the zip file and restart the server (without need to know buildout or give it any changes to fail). It has worked well and there's no more need for anyone to cancel his/her vacation just because of a security patch.

-Asko

PS. Just amazing that the security team was able to provide the patch all the way to Plone 2.x!

<pre>Hi Jody,

I believe that what you want is to run:

&lt;path_to_python&gt;/bin/python bootstrap.py -v 1.7.1

which will regenerate your bin/buildout (please back it up first)

where &lt;path_to_python&gt; is found on the first line of your existing
bin/buildout.

Then you can rerun buildout.

Buildout version 1.7.1 seems to work for me, but I'm not upgraded to
Plone 4.3 yet.

regards,
Daniel

<pre>I just suggest one simple solution:

If the team does NOT says it publishes EXACTLY at this point in time and instead say e.g. "within an expected timeframe of 15 or 30 minutes depending of actual latencies to propagate the publication." everybody can adjust.

You can catch both targets this way. Not saying the truth is bad but making it hard to match the target announced by yourself. Using language like this is stupid but common (waiter in the restaurant). So adjust what you promise to realistic possibilities!

If you promise too optimistic you are trapped if it fails!

In spite of better knowledge I am currently in a similar situation and know what I am saying!

Matt: Take this seriously! If you were an average blabla writer, it would not be hard. But you have professional training in using proper language! Use it and support your team in writing ;-) The points Andreas is aiming at are very serious indeed! Forget other connotations known from his posts.

<pre>I have to +1 ajung's feedback here.
While we have the insider's view it is important that we stay aware of the
outsider's view.

I think internally we want to properly manage the quality of the hotfixes
while on the outside people expect things to look like we have everything
under control. I didn't understand Andreas to be saying that we should
ignore the internal considerations, he's cautioning us about the
repercussions of not sticking to our "hotfix commitments".

I hope I got that right.

I think we all agree that it is important to look good, friendly and
professional to outsiders.

We have a very bureaucratic customer who maintains their own plone sites
inhouse.
We had to inform them about the hotfix, and we had to inform them about
the upgrade (Which can't be deployed yet due to process restrictions...)
They did not complain at all about the 10 minutes delay, they just
waited those ten minutes.

Also,
https://plone.org/products/plone/security/advisories/20130618-announcement
advices for a 60 minutes maintenance windows.
With such a maintenance windows, the 10 minute delay would not be an issue.
So I don't get your point either.

An only slightly unrelated note, The BSI, a german government agency for
IT Security, did a CMS evaluation. One of the few complaints of plone
was a missing dedicated security mailing list. I think, this would be
good for the "outsiders" who only want to be informed when they have to
do something. Maybe a list that only allows people to write to a week
before the </pre>
