Silva 2.2 alpha Released

Silva 2.2 alpha Released

Infrae is pleased to announce the alpha release of Silva 2.2. This
release adds a slew of new features for developers and system
administrators, and is a quantum leap with Zope 2.11 and Five/Grok
technology. Also the Sphinx-driven docs.infrae.com has gone online.

New features, of interest to developers

* Silva has been ‘eggified’. Buildout scripts can now retrieve eggs
from https://dist.infrae.com/ and the Python Package Index (formerly
the Cheese Shop).
* Five/Grok views are supported. This lets you define Zope 3 Views to
render content.
* All Silva content types and services now use five.grok for
configuration and registration.
* Content types are now created and edited using the z3c forms
component.
* Generic Formlib and z3c forms support have been added to the ZMI.
* The mechanism for previewing public pages has been refactored. No
additional ZCML and view definitions are needed. Importantly, a Five
namespace is used so that the author stays in preview

MailingLogger 3.2.2 Released!

I'm pleased to announce a new release of
Mailinglogger that finally correctly supports easy_install and so works
fine with zc.buildout-based projects.

In fact, MailingLogger has *become* a zc.buildout-based project for its
development...

Anyway, Mailinglogger provides two handlers for the standard python
logging framework that enable log entries to be emailed either as the
entries are logged or as a summary at the end of the running process.

The handlers have the following features:

- customisable and dynamic subject lines for emails sent

- emails sent with an X-Mailer header for easy filtering

- flood protection to ensure the number of emails sent is not excessive

- support for SMTP servers that require authentication

- fully documented and tested

In addition, extra support is provided for configuring the handlers when
using ZConfig, Zope 2 or Zope 3.

Installation is as easy as:

easy_install mailinglogger

First 'five.grok' release

First five.grok release

The developers of five.grok are pleased to announce a 1.0a1 release.
This is a milestone in the convergence of Zope 2 towards Zope 3
technology. The five.grok component makes the ease of Grok – with its
convention over configuration approach – available to existing Zope 2
applications.

The five.grok initiative was begun by Lennart Regebro and Godefroid
Chapelle at the Paris Sprint at Ingeniweb. five.grok is already in use
in Martin Aspeli's Dexterity and Infrae's content management system
Silva.

What is five.grok?

five.grok is a development layer for Zope 2, based on Grok framework
concepts. The development techniques are similar to those used in
Grok. The component is based on grokcore namespace packages that were
factored out of Grok.

Implemented features

five.grok makes the following components available to Zope 2 developers:

     * Zope 3 Component (Adapter, Utility, Subscribers)
     * Permissions
     * Views
     * Page Templates (using the Zope 2

has been a restructuring of Grok, spinning off packages that can now
be used independently in Zope 3 projects as well as in Zope 2 (through
five.grok):

    * Spin off of grokcore.view - support for views is now maintained
in this package.
    * Spin off of grokcore.security - support for security
declarations is now maintained here
    * Spin off of grokcore.formlib - support for zope.formlib based forms
    * Spin off of grokui.admin - the admin UI is now distributed
separately, but grokproject automatically will include it when you

===========
What is it?
===========

The ``zc.async`` package provides **an easy-to-use Python tool that
schedules
work persistently and reliably across multiple processes and machines.**

For instance...

- *Web apps*: maybe your web application lets users request the
creation of a
   large PDF, or some other expensive task.

- *Postponed work*: maybe you have a job that needs to be done at a
certain time,
   not right now.

- *Parallel processing*: maybe you have a long-running problem that
can be made
   to complete faster by splitting it up into discrete parts, each
performed in
   parallel, across multiple machines.

- *Serial processing*: maybe you want to decompose and serialize a job.

High-level features include the following:

- easy to use;

- flexible configuration, changeable dynamically in production;

- reliable;

- supports high availability;

- good debugging tools;

- well-tested; and

- friendly to testing.

Our program looks for talks about Zope components, Plone and case studies.
We're open for general talks about Python, Zope, Plone and related
technologies though!

The Grok team is happy to announce the release of Grok 0.13!

This release is available on PyPI and a new index of specific versions

projects created with grokproject will start using this release right

New Features
------------

* New ``grok.traversable`` directive to make individual attributes
  traversable without having to write a ``traverse`` method. Just give
  it the attribute name and the attribute becomes traversable.

* ``grok.require`` now also accepts the permission class directly as
  an argument, instead of just the permission name.

* The view ``url`` method has an optional parameter ``data``, which
  is a dictionary with URL parameters to generate.

* New ``grok.OrderedContainer`` component.

* Easier test setup infrastructure in ``z3c.testsetup``, see `tests-
  with-grok-testing`_ for more details.

21 june 2008 – Infrae announces an alpha release of Silva 2.1, plus
three releases for Silva versions that fix problems with the Firefox 3
web browser. There are Silva 2.0.8, 1.6.3, and 1.5.12 versions available.

New features of the Silva 2.1 alpha will be announced on the
silva-general mailing list: https://lists.infrae.com/mailman/listinfo/silva-general

In the 2.x series the key improvements are:

* Added support for ‘elaborate’ Code Sources, which are editable in a
   pop-up window instead of a toolbox.
* When SMTP errors occur while sending notifications, we log them, but
   no longer abort the process.
* When PDF/Word file conversion for indexing results in errors, the
   converted text is indexed anyway.

Various other minor issues have been fixed. For details see the history
file included with each version.
