When I try to update miktex (2.9) today I get the error message

Any hints what the source of this problem is and how can it be avoided?

Problem with latest update of fixme.sty

<pre>Hi,

i have a problem with my MikTex 2.9 installation after the latest update
of the fixme.sty package (dated 2013-02-01).
The update seems to remove the 'themes' and 'layout' subdirectories of
the package with the following files:
[TEXMF]/tex/latex/fixme/layouts/fxlayout*.sty
[TEXMF]/tex/latex/fixme/layouts/env/fxenvlayout*.sty
[TEXMF]/tex/latex/fixme/layouts/target/fxtargetlayout*.sty
[TEXMF]/tex/latex/fixme/themes/fxtheme*.sty

This results into an error message when using the package.
The problem is similar to the following posting for MikTex 2.8:
http://miktex.10937.n7.nabble.com/FiXme-package-missing-files-td6643.html

I am not sure, if this is a problem of my local installation - a full
re-installation of MikTex 2.9 did not solve the problem though.
I was able to recover functionality by following the instruction from
this posting.
Shall i open a bug report for this issue?

Kind regards,

Roland

I am posting a message whose author is unable to post now.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The STIX fonts are a suite of unicode OpenType fonts containing a
complete set of mathematical glyphs. The CTAN copy packaged on
2010-06-04 is a mirror of the outdated official release, organised as
specified by the TeX Directory Structure, for inclusion in standard TeX
distributions.

A new version has been recently released. The StixFonts website
(http://www.stixfonts.org/) states that
Version 1.1.0–latex–beta provides a new packaging format of the STIX
fonts suitable for use with LaTeX.
This version is available for download at
https://sourceforge.net/projects/stixfonts.
Participants are encouraged to provide feedback through
https://sourceforge.net/projects/stixfonts/support.

Can anyone help me installing this package into the MikTeX system. I did
it manually, but the installed files are not recognized by the system
even after refreshing the file name </pre>

The trouble I have with that is that I'm using LyX, and it wants to put all
the output files in a temporary directory. So writing to files/test.tex,
for example, will write the file to a directory within the temporary
hierarchy, rather than a subfolder of the main document. Maybe this
therefore comes to be a question for LyX.

However, if I have control over TEXMFOUTPUT, why is this still a security risk?

Also, any idea why TEXMFOUTPUT doesn't seem to be having the effect that I
would expect?

Thanks and regards,
Steve

Do you mean the difference between LaTeX and MiKTeX? Well, LaTeX is a
document markup language and a document preparation system. MiKTeX is a
specific TeX/LaTeX implementation for Windows. Your question was about
the use of Greek letters when you use the \listoffigures command.
Therefore, it is about LaTeX in general, not about a specific
implementation.

<pre>Hi Jose,

Thanks for your response! Could you tell what the difference between the two is?

Thanks,
