As compared to what? I started Task Coach in Tkinter, the python
binding of Tk (Tcl's graphical toolkit) but I migrated to wxPython
before the first public release of Task Coach. Mainly because of the
richer widget set of wxPython at that time (speaking about 2004/2005
now) and of the native look at all major platforms. The widget set has
become even better and the native look is still there so I'm quite
happy. The C++'ness of wxWidgets that's leaking through the API and
its documentation never bothered me too much.

I will add the ArchLinux package to the Linux download section of the

<pre>Frank - I found the bulk of my problem. I had the setting set to
automatically save after every change. I disabled that and now things
are much faster and usable again.

It still takes about 6 seconds to open tasks &amp; my cpu goes 50%, but at
least the program is responsive when moving around or changing things.

Thanks again for your help &amp; great program. If I run into more
performance problems I'll do as you suggest and make a copy of my .tsk
file, strip out my attachments and play with things to see if I can
figure out what's causing it.

There is TackCoach in Arch's user repository
(http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=6005), but it would be nice to
provide pysyncml package as well in order to have ability to sync.

There are pysyncml binary packages built for both i686 &amp; x86_64
architectures, but the packaging problem is that package under Archlinux
is supposed to install undr /usr/lib and not /usr/local/lib.

Otoh, in order to make it easier to package pysyncml I wonder if it's
possible to create cpp-sdk source release suitable for building pysynvml
against it?

We understand the

problem, but having stable source releases for *both* cpp-sdk &amp; pysyncml
would greatly help us to prepare the package.

What do you think?

I've committed a fix that should considerably speed up opening task
files with a lot of efforts, like Martin's task file.

Available from http://www.fraca7.net/TaskCoach-packages/latest_bugfixes.py,
revision 5367 or newer. Please let me know whether it makes a
difference.

Note, this fix is just for opening the task file. The starting and
stopping of effort tracking is still very slow.

Thanks, Frank

<pre>Hi Frank,

I have noticed significant slowness as well. After upgrading to TC 1.3.14 on my Windows 7-64 laptop, everything takes much more time then in previous version (1.3.13). Opening task file takes several minutes, closing TC dtto, starting and stopping effort 20+ seconds. I am not aware of any other change in my setup. I can send you both my task file and my ini file, if you desire. I almost never use atatchments. My task file has ~250 tasks and quite a lot of efforts (~5600).

Should I open a support request/bug report?

Thanks
Martin

35 tasks should not make Task Coach slow. I guess it's the attachments that do.

A quick test would be to make a copy of your task file and then in the

the copy without the attachments is much quicker. It should be...

Thanks. I've fixed two of the exceptions. Others (older ones) have

<pre>I am running the latest version of Task Coach on 32 bit winXP. Core 2
laptop 2ghz with 4GB ram and an SSD.

I only have 35 or so tasks -and practically the only features I
currently use are attaching emails to tasks and brief notes.

At this point my tsk file is 16MB and the program is quite slow &amp; burns
up a lot of CPU time when I click on something. Task Coach at this
point is still usable (although not optimal) - I really like the program
but, at this rate, I'm concerned that before long it will become
unusably slow.

Is there something I can optimize or something I'm doing wrong that is
causing everything to respond so slowly? Everything else on this PC
responds very quickly.

Also - If I close task coach, I get a messagebox that errors have
occurred and to check the log file. My log file can be viewed at the
link below if it helps:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42705223/TaskCoach.exe.log

The emails I attach to my tasks (if it makes a difference) are from my
gmail acct which is using IMAP, </pre>

[ANN] Release 1.3.14 of Task Coach

<pre>Hi,

We're happy to announce release 1.3.14 of Task Coach. This is a mixed feature
and bugfix release.

Bug fixed:
- Task Coach wouldn't start on Ubuntu 12.04. (SF#3522305)

Feature added:
- Added support for pipe as separator symbol when importing from CSV.

What is Task Coach?

Task Coach is a simple task manager that allows for hierarchical tasks,
i.e. tasks in tasks. Task Coach is open source (GPLv3+) and is developed
using Python and wxPython. You can download Task Coach from:

http://taskcoach.org/

In addition to the source distribution, packaged distributions are available
for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and BSD.

Note that although we consider Task Coach to be stable software,
and we do our best to prevent bugs, it is always wise to back up your task
file regularly, and especially when upgrading to a new release.

Regards,

Frank Niessink and Jerome Laheurte

I found the problem with the deb (some files were not included in the
deb package). I've committed a fix. The PPA packages shoul be rebuild
in a couple of hours. I'll also do a bug fix release soon.

I've no idea about this. I'm using Gmail via the standard web
interface so I don't think the problem is on my side.

Cheers, Frank

I removed 1.3.*14*(which I got via the PPA, and turned it into a

perfectly well.

I still can *not* display your mails in Thunderbird on Xubuntu 12.04
amd64, whereas they display well on Windows 7 32-bit. Your mails are the
only ones that can't be displayed.

From what I see here the answer is simpler: your iPhone and the VM are not on the same local network, because VMWare player creates its own. In VMWare workstation you can change this in the settings (choose "Bridged" instead of "NAT" or "Private network" in the network settings) but I don't know if this option exists in VMWare Player.
