ברצוני לבשר על הקמת קבוצה חדשה, שתנהל מפגשים פעם בחודש, בנושאים הקשורים
לחישוב נומרי בעזרת כלים חופשיים.
קהל היעד הוא כל מי שמשתמש או רוצה להשתמש בכלים הללו - פתוח לכל, עד כדי
מגבלת מקום.

עושה רושם שיהיה ייצוג מכובד לכלים מבוססי פייתון, אבל בפירוש אין כוונה
להגביל את הנושאים.
בכל זאת - אם אין לאף אחד התנגדות - אני רוצה לנצל את הרשימה הזאת לדיון
בנושא, עד שתוקצה לעניין רשימת דיוור נפרדת.
 בינתיים יש אתר שמכיל פרטים, וגם אפשרות להרשם:

Check out a cool project made by our fellow countryman Itzik Kotler:

Pythonect is a new, experimental, general-purpose dataflow programming
language based on Python.

It aims to combine the intuitive feel of shell scripting (and all of its
perks like implicit parallelism) with the flexibility and agility of
Python.

Pythonect interpreter (and reference implementation) is written in Python,
and is available under the BSD license.

Here's a quick tour of Pythonect:

The canonical "Hello, world" example program in Pythonect:

'->' and '|' are both Pythonect operators.

The pipe operator (i.e. '|') passes one item at a item, while the other
operator passes all items at once.

Why isn't the workshop part of PyCon?

You can ask the organizers... However, note:

1. It takes place between Oreilly's strata conference and PyCon, so people
might stay over from that conference.
2. It is also of interest for people who are interested in scientific
computing, big-data etc. more than in Python per-se.
3. This event includes a meeting between Guido and numpy-devs to discuss
issues like future integration with py3.3. I guess numpy/scipy devs would
be a main target audience for pydata, and they might have had some
scheduling problems.

Amit,

DreamHost is a shared hosting provider. They already have apache and mysql
installed with mod_php. It's not a bare system. And you can't get root.
They do give you access to a single database and space mapped to whatever
you want in apache.

If you can't handle setting up a wiki under these conditions (which is very
doable) then I don't have another good solution.

I do not mind setting it up, but getting permission to install some
required extra packages on the server was the deal-breaker that finally
stopped us from hosting this wiki on Hamakor server last time.

Current configuration of the wiki uses apache + mod_php + MySql (recent
versions - I'm not sure what's the minimal requirement). It would be
easiest to restore it into a similar environment.
I'll need an account with permissions to set them up (system root if extra
packages need to be installed, permissions for apache config for the
vhost/redirections, mysql

I have been using http://www.linode.com/ for a while and slowly
switching over my sites.
They give you a small VPS for $20/month.
There you can install whatever you'd like.
