in cyberscience/ -- computation- and data-enabled science and
engineering -- /to lead through cyber-enabled innovation/ in
interdisciplinary research. We seek outstanding faculty who can work
across disciplines and in a team to advance algorithms, software and
theory to exploit "Big Data" and "Big Simulations" for scientific
discovery and engineering design in a variety of disciplines. We plan to
make 12 tenure-track appointments at all levels from Assistant and
Associate Professors through Full Professors and Endowed Chairs. These
positions feature outstanding research space, competitive start-up
packages and state-of-the-art shared instrumentation for computation-
and data-enabled research.

Applications will be reviewed through a coordinated process across
departments in participating colleges (the College of Earth & Mineral
Sciences, the College of Engineering and the Eberly College of Science)
and the Institute for Cybe

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship at the University of
Strathclyde in Glasgow on "Preconditioning Via Hierarchical
Clustering", funded by the Centre for Numerical Algorithms and
Intelligent Software (http://www.nais.org.uk).

The project, supervised by Dr Philip Knight and Professor Iain Duff,
will be based in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, but
it is envisaged that some time will be spent at the CERFACS research
facility in Toulouse.

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate or postgraduate
degree in mathematics or a similar numerate discipline. Experience
of programming in C++, FORTRAN or similar would be an advantage.

To be eligible for funding (full tuition fees and an annual stipend)
one must be a an EU citizen.

PhD positions at Univ. Bergen

Vacant PhD positions in parallel graph algorithms

This is to announce that The Department of Informatics at The
University of Bergen, Norway, has two vacant positions for PhD
candidates. The application deadline is November 11th 2012. See
http://www.jobbnorge.no/job.aspx?jobid=87512 for how to apply. An
applicant must either hold a master degree or have submitted his or
hers master thesis before the application date. The position is for
four years and has a gross starting salary of NOK 416 600 (currently
about $72000 or EUR 55000).

The positions are open within all fields where the department conducts
research. The reason why I am posting this to the CSC list is that
currently I have the possibility of taking on a PhD student within the
field of parallel algorithms in combinatorial scientific computing. My
research interests are particularly in parallel graph algorithms. Thus
relevant background is algorithms, algorithm engineering, programming,
and parallel computing.
