Also, there is a way to detach the Halo handles and they still function but I can't remember exactly and didn't rediscover it in a hurried 5 minutes of keystroke combo clicks. I bet someone knows and will tell.

It is one of those examples that prove that every-thing-is-an-object.
On that topic, my young students are realizing that they can deconstruct and modify things like the All Scripts button; a gateway moment that leads to other experiments.

I agree with the Post from Sugar Labs &lt; at &gt; NSDU.

Etoys Illinois &lt;http://etoysillinois.org/library?tags=Computer%20Programming%20Tools%20in%20Schools&gt; is "one of the best Etoys repositories around".

Many thanks for your help. I solved this problem with the hint of Richo.
I made a 1 pixel paint and use it as source. After that I copy and repaint
this copy. It's fine!
Thanks again

Hi,

If I understood your problem correctly, I think you can create an empty drawing and in the button script put something like this:

[ Sketch | copy | do menu item | repaint ]

So now, when you click the button you'll be repainting a copy of the original sketch and you can use it many times.

Cheers,
Richo

I've a student developping a project to teach some basic math concepts. In
her proposal, it's needed a button to start drwaing things using the etoys
paintbox. Because it will be needed several times I can't recommend the "do
menu item" "repaint".
Anny suggestiont to help solve this problem will be appreciated.

Squeakland is proud to announce the release of Etoys 5, which you can
now download from our website. Special thanks our developers,
particularly Ricardo Moran, Bert Freudenberg, Scott Wallace (and my
self) for their dedicated efforts in the last weeks.

http://squeakland.org/download/

In the Etoys 5 you'll find new features, like single-stepping a
script, attached watchers, a graph paper tool or the integration of
ScratchConnect. You'll find a list of the new features, changes and
bug fixes along with a list of contributors in our release notes. For
the new features, we added a section with more detailed explanations
on how to use it at the end of the notes.

http://www.squeakland.org/download/releaseNotes.jsp

Thanks to everyone who helped us to make this happen!

with about ten kids 10-16 years old.

I have done similar things in the past with kids based on seeing Seymour
Papert videos where he has children pretending to be the "turtle" and the
other children give the commands.

Besides being a lot of fun, I really think the kids learned a lot and got a
feeling of success.

Here is a list of some of the things kids came up with:

   1. Created Looping techniques
      1. While walk
      2. Repeat 4 times: walk 2ft
   2. Came up with the idea of using coordinates to program the Robot (ex:
goto 1,0 - an actual good use of goto :)
   3. Measured the whole path, drew models of the path with measurements
and planned out everything on paper before writing the program
   4. Came up with various sensors (ex: sense Obstacle)
      1. Special thanks to those who improved the sensors and had me stop
      BEFORE I hit the wall!!!

<pre>Hi Ariel,

I think this would be solved by packaging a 4.x Squeak VM for Fedora. You could try compiling the latest tar ball from http://squeakvm.org/unix/ ...

Subject: Re: [squeakland] Animation question

In a setup script that is _not_ ticking:
Set a variable to 1.
Start animation script ticking.

Animation script:
Test if the variable is equal to the holder count + 1. (we need to be one larger to be able to show last holder item)
If 'yes' pause animation script.
If 'no' display the player at cursor variable and increase the variable by 1.

Cheers,
Karl

Saludos,
