<pre>I have some ideas for possible projects you may want to mentor for
GSOC, fitting with the theme of "polishing something existing". These
may not be good projects, or you may not have time this year, but I at
least wanted to bring them to your attention:

1, Implement sorting and filtering by dimension, width, length, pixel
count, or aspect ratio. If you need to find an image for a
presentation or wallpaper this is very important. Even dolphin
implements sorting by resolution now, but gwenview does not.

2. Port gwenview to dolphin's new file view. This allows for better
performance and more fluid layouts.

3. Improve the gwenview kpart so it supports things like the thumbnail
view and next/prev buttons.

Just a notice to let you know I am finally closing this mailing list. The
Gwenview forum [1] is here to help for user-related questions. I may create a
gwenview-devel mailing list on KDE servers if needed.

Since closing this list means removing access to its web archive, I downloaded
the whole archive, removed the spam from it, obfuscated the email addresses
and uploaded it to http://gwenview.sf.net/gwenview-general.mbox.bz2

Should you need a non-obfuscated version of the mailing list, contact me
directly.

<pre>Folks;

being rather new to KDE (after having used mostly GNOME and XFCE for the last
15 years), I stumbled across gwenview and immediately found this to be the
image management app I have been searching for, all the time - it seems just
the right kind of "a-bit-more-than-a-file-manager" that I need to keep track of
the images on my drive. With one exception, and one feature dearly missed: I
like using tags, "star" ratings, descriptions and all these things on my
images. gwenview does rather good at doing so, but unfortunately this
annotations made to images are lost as soon as I copy images somewhere.
Expectation would be to (have an option to) have these things stored directly
within the images, using EXIF, IPTC or whatever else comes in handy here.

Is this somewhere on the roadmap? Are there any issues open about that? Is
there any workaround to achieve this?

TIA,
Kristian

<pre>Hi all,

I recently asked for the creation of a forum for Gwenview on forum.kde.org. It
is available here: http://forum.kde.org/viewforum.php?f=213

I am planning to deprecate this mailing-list in favor of a forum. I think a
forum is more appropriate for the following reasons:

- Forum do not require setting up individual passwords for every topic you are
interested in.

- It is easier to join an existing conversation on a forum you just discovered
than on a mailing list you are not subscribed before.

- It is easier for non-technical users to join a forum. These days discussions
on the mailing list are not technical, so I think it is more appropriate.

Yes, I had to abstract Nepomuk away when I added support for it in

UI against it. I think the abstraction should be removed as it prevents
the implementation of useful features like live notifications of Nepomuk
changes.

Can you provide a mockup for this? Right now the information panel is
about displaying information for the current image. I am not sure it is
the right place to trigger searchs, but maybe I can be convinced by a
mockup :)

This sounds good.

There is a project named libkface. You may want to look for it.

very abstract with respect to semantic information. Our plan is to provide
features for tagging PIMO:Persons in gwenview. Since gwenview is already
integrated with nepomuk , tagging feature is not going to be a problem with
respect to implementation. I'm taking this project along with one of my

project -

 - I have planned to create a search box in the information panel using

Hello,

Today, I ran an update on my Arch Linux system, installing KDE 4.7.0 with
Gwenview 2.7.0. Before the update, when using the Gwenview KPart in
Konqueror, the "View" menu and the right-click menu contained the four
menu items controlling image scaling: "Actual Size", "Zoom to Fit", "Zoom
In", and "Zoom Out". But in the new version, they do not show up, and the
keyboard shortcuts for zooming in / out (Ctrl++ and Ctrl+-) don't do
anything. Therefore it is always in "Zoom to Fit" mode. (They are still
present in the full Gwenview application, though.)

Is there some reason why these have been removed from the KPart? I often
used the scaling options (especially "Actual Size") when viewing images in
Konqueror, and I'd like to have them back.

P.S.: Thanks for writing Gwenview.

Mmmm, no offense but I find that dialog to be a bit rough... I can see
how it can be efficient though. Will think about it for a while.

<pre>Hi,

No problem, I also have pending answers for a much longer time :-)

Arguing with an earlier answer to my email: I DO find it useful to have
the possibility of easily organizing/sorting my pics from gwenview.
After a trip I usually browse them there, crop/color-tune/etc them, and
then sort them out to folders (private, to-be-shown-on-presentations,
not-good-enough-to-be-shown-on-presentations, etc)
One can of course also drag-and-drop them to different folders in a
dolphin window (or several dolphin windows), but that needs several
other windows to be open at the same time, etc.
Weak arguments, but I find it easier this way :-)

In IrfanView this is a popup window, which pops up when one clicks
'Edit/Copy(or Move) To' (or at the corresponding keyboard shortcut) just
like in gwenview, but instead of the file/directory selection window it
contains a 10-element list of locations, which can each be selected by
the Browse button next to them. (see attached file).
Clicking on the numerical buttons on</pre>

Yes. The last-used directory of this list is selected by default,
hitting Enter in the popup window copies/moves the picture into that
directory.

I personally prefer shortcuts, whenever possible, they work much faster,
but that's only one opinion.
