Subject: [Indlinux-group] About D-I translation effort for Kannada...

Quoting Christian Perrier (bubulle&lt; at &gt;kheops.frmug.org):

I'm afraid that the l10n effort for Kannada is currently completely
stuck.

Thejesh reached step 10 of the New Language Process (create an
account), I validated him for commit....but since March, I haven't got
more news.

Manu Aradhya was named backup coordinator when we discussed with
Thejesh.....but no news as well....

Please give news....

The New Language Process is currently nearly completed for Kannada and
translation work could theoretically begin. Just need to compelte all
this and revive the whole stuff. Given the schedule, it's pretty
unlikely that Kannada will make it for Etch but, who knows?

    <link>http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.internationalization.kannada/175</link>
    <description>Snehitare,

Kannada Wikipedia - the online encyclopedia in Kannada has been
there on the internet for almost 2 years now. Many folks know about
it, some of us contribute to the project regularly.

But many Kannadigas do not yet know about this wonderful
project - some of them have had problems with enabling Unicode on
their machine; many of them need help editing the wiki. To be of
assistance to all these people and to spread the word across about
Kannada Wikipedia, we're holding a unique event on Sunday, April 2nd,
2006, at Nayana Auditorium, J C Road at 4 PM.

Find out more about the event at:
 http://kn.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:PM

We invite all Kannadigas who take interest in seeing their
wonderful language grow on the Internet to participate in the event
and help spread the word across about the Wiki technology, Unicode
usage and above all, the Kannada Wikipedia.

Registration is free for the event. You can register for the event at:

    <title>Ubuntu breezy badger update</title>
    <link>http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.internationalization.kannada/163</link>
    <description>Hi friends,

Has anyone among you upgraded to Ubuntu breezy badger? I
observed that there's some issue with SCIM on the latest Ubuntu
release. (SCIM-m17n is needed for the kannada input. Not sure how many
of you have been using that, again)
Most GNOME applications hang when you have SCIM daemon running.
More details here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=416534&amp;posted=1#post416534

Although I haven't delved into what the exact issue might be, a quick
strace confirmed that the applications were hanging at the point where
SCIM gets initialized.

Thought of updating you folks on this so that anyone else who might've
faced the same issue might shed more light on this. If any of you are
upgrading to breezy, just take a note of this and if you find a
workaround, please inform us about it as well.

cheers,

- h.p.

True - the problem I see is Firefox specific. It renders fine with

The issue with Firefox seems to be that it doesn't seem to take

Running X and using methods similar to Linux/BSD might be the best way
to work with Kannada for Mac users for a while. Having said that I

I've looked at the comment from Nick at

and I think I need a bit more detail.

The keyboard.zip file contains two "bundle" directories Kannada.bundle and
__MACOSX/Kannada.bundle

I've tried copying the entire directory Kannada.bundle (one at a time) into
~/Library/Keyboard Layouts and logging out and logging back in and it doesn
show up in my international prefs...is this not what is required?

I'm running 10.3.9 FWIW.
