<pre>Hi Eric,

Thanks a lot for your hint, now initng does not hang anymore for several
seconds at 7% of the initialization of my Debian Lenny installation :-)

For documentation purposes, the file /etc/initng/system/udev.i now
contains the following lines:

# wait for the udevd childs to finish
# /sbin/udevsettle
# Request device uevents
/sbin/udevadm trigger
# Watch the udev event queue, and exit if all current events are handled
/sbin/udevadm settle --timeout=300

Well, I am no udev expert, the above-mentioned comments about the
udevadm options are quotes from the udevadm manpage ;-)

There are two other issues with regard to the initialization of my
Debian Lenny installation by initng:

1. KDM daemon started twice

At the end of the boot and initng initialization process, the KDE login
screen is displayed for some seconds, but then it dissappears, instead
a black screen is visible, and then the login screen is displayed
again. It seems as if KDM is loaded, then it gets terminated, then it
gets star</pre>

<pre>Hi,

I would like to use initng 0.6.10.2 in my Debian Lenny installation.

During startup initng hangs for a lot of seconds and thus delays the
init process, and then continues the initialization of the system. This
is the message while the init process hangs:

7% system/udev/filldev start
bash_helper[system/udev/filldev]: line 46 /sbin/sbin/udevtrigger: no
such file or directory

The fix specified at http://www.initng.org/wiki/udevstart unfortunately
does not provide a solution because in my
installation /etc/initng/system/udev.i already contains the following
lines:

# if this directories are not present /dev will not be updated by udev
/bin/mkdir -p /dev/.udev/db/ /dev/.udev/queue/

# send hotplug events
/sbin/udevtrigger

# wait for the udevd childs to finish
/sbin/udevsettle

Any suggestions about how to solve this?

Regards,

Jens

Dear readers of the InitNG mailing list,

today, Ismael and I decided to move the InitNG hosting to Sourceforge. The
main reason after the current Trac downtime and continued mailinglist issues
is that we want to spend time with development, not with project
maintenance. SF.net provides us with the features we need (notably Trac and
mailing lists), and at the same time lifts a heavy technical management
burden from us.

I bid you to re-subscribe to the new mailing list. You can find information
about that on

https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/initng-users

This current mailing list will be taken down in a few days, and subscritions
will be removed. We will try to maintain the archive. Please refrain from
today on to post to the old list, thanks.

All current files, settings, and tickets are going to be moved over to
SF.net. The Git hosting, however, will stay at Gitorious.

Enjoy!

Yes, the option of netdev is 'ON' now.
BUILD_NETDEV:BOOL=ON

Thereafter the delay does not occur.
If it is experimental, I want to set it to off.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Takeshi,

could you please trace InitNG, i.e. attach a gdb to it and when the timeout
happens, post a stack trace to the ML? I can only make wild guesses here.
One would be to ask whether your device has any NICs or whether nwpboot
enables NIC hardware or not.

I fear InitNG gets stuck somewhere in the initng_io_module_poll(int timeout)
heap. Would be good to know definetly where.

Thanks.

<pre>Hi Eric and Ismael, and folks,

Sorry, this report was wrong, it was not correct time.
I tested it again last night, and confirmed that the latency was just
two minutes.

BTW, I found two minutes delay (not a timer) in
'plugins/netdev/initng_netdev.c'.
probe_network_devices() : initng_global_set_sleep(120);

I changed this value to 60 sec for trial.
The result was following.
Jan 1 00:02:13 MYHOST InitNG: Service service/nwpboot is starting.
Jan 1 00:02:18 MYHOST service/nwpboot: writing done
Jan 1 00:03:18 MYHOST InitNG: Service service/nwpboot is up.

I think my nwpboot service doesn't depend on probing any network
devices. Would you show me a purpose of this delay?
I want to customize this value if possible.

regards,
Takeshi.

<pre>Welcome to the list!

There's no timeout in InitNG's service handling that produces a "ok" signal.
At least none that I know about. The great master, Ismael, should verify
this. ;-)

Let's start by adding some debug output. Could you please modify your
service that it looks like this:

----%&lt;----
echo $(date) nwpboot
time /usr/bin/nwpboot /root/nwp_program userapp
rc=$?
echo $(date) done nwpboot
exit $rc
----&gt;%----

Let's see how it behaves. :-)

Thanks.
