Juan,

I found the problem, I think. The Coco3 patches the code at $A910 rather than
using the link at $1A0. So that

$A910 jsr $1A0

becomes

$A910 jmp $8C46

That means your program will need to test for the presence of a Coco3, i.e. if
$FFFE=$8C1B you have a Coco3. If there is a Coco3, you patch $A911-$A912. If
there is not a Coco3, then you patch as you currently do $1A1-$1A2.

I'll change your source code and test it.

Are you saying that can cause problems in the CoCo 3?

I can't delve into CoCo code here at work, I'll take a look at that when I
get home tonight. Meanwhile, what's the most canonical/portable way of
testing whether I'm running in a CoCo 3? (So I don't try to hook CLS's
vector if I am)

Juan,

Seems to me that the CLS vector is still being used by the Coco3 but there is
additional patching.

What may be an issue is TSTHIRES. The Coco3 definition of hi-res is to look at
$E7 to see what screen mode is present: 0=low-res, 1to4=hi-res. That means you
can't use the current TSTHIRES to replace the test at $8C46

  pshs cc
  tst &amp;lt;$E7

I think TSTHIRES is looking at the PIA to see whether low-res text or graphics
is on.

<description>&lt;pre&gt;Well, I just found out the CoCo 3 destroys the capability to hook CLS. The
patched code doesn't bother to call the RAM vector. That's, like, rude, man.

OK, I'll just define CHR$(12) (Form Feed) as the CLS character.

objection and will at a personal level do what's in their ability to assist
in making the web feed a success. Keep in mind the internet bandwidth is
provided as a courtesy by the hotel and they make no promises about throughput
or latency and I would bet that outbound bandwidth is going to be slow. If
those watching and casting can work with those limitations it won't be a
problem.

One thing to consider is that in the past Boisy has voiced objections based on
his concern that it will cause people to watch the stream and not actually go
to the fest. I hope that the streaming serves to increase interest in the fest
and causes more people to go rather then serve as a way for people to "attend"
without actually going! Remember the fest is supported by people going,
interacting, buying product from vendors and the auctions and this means being there!

I do plenty of web searches. If there's anything that's become clear in
15-odd years of searching, it's that some folks have a knack for finding
exactly the right keywords and some don't. I tend to over-think search
terms and generally fall into the latter group. My track-record at
finding things is not particularly good.

The subject of processor swaps comes up repeatedly on the Apple 2 forums
and far smarter folks than I had concluded it wasn't workable. In
retrospect, that may be due to the A2's requirements for video generation.

I'll mention the above page and see what folks think.

Worth a shot to just pretend it worked and insert a disk, do a DIR.

Thanks Chris, Stephen, Aaron for your help, apparently changing the
permissions on the /dev/ttyUSB0 file did have an effect. Drivewire can
now recognize ttyUSB0. However, I'm not quite there yet. I ran into
another, possibly related problem.

After getting Drivewire to recognize ttyUSH0, I proceeded with the
configuration program. I get to the part where the program asks me to
connect the cable to the Coco and turn it on. Drivewire then listens for
a code to be transmitted to Drivewire through the cable from the Serial
Port on the Coco when it's turned on in order to test the connection.
Well, Drivewire never receives the signal and it times out. Four
possibilities come to mind:

1) Cable not connected properly.
2) Cable is defective/damaged.
3) The Serial I/O port on the Coco is defective/damaged.
4) Some other possibility I haven't thought of.

I'm pretty sure #1 isn't the issue. I verified all my connections and
everything looks snug &amp;amp; correct. I don't think it's #2 since a close
inspection of&lt;/pre&gt;</description>

Actually, comparing the 65C816 to the 6502,
they do seem to have a lot of compatible signals.
Boisy has posted the schematics for the Liber809.
Maybe its time to do a little research.

There IS one big problem:
Its the same one that effectively prevents a 3.58 MHz 63C09E
Like the Color Computer, virtually all the clock signals in an 8 bit Atari
Are derived by dividing a single clock. So memory, CPU, and video timing are
All interrelated.

You can't just increase the CPU speed.

BTW - This swap has been done by a Commodore hacker (don't you do web searches).
