<pre>Hello

I've various 1-wire probes installed at home: temp, Humidity, counter,
pressure,... mainly from Hobby-boards.
All connected to sheevaplug running ubuntu with OWFS 2.8p20

I'd like to display these measurements on LCD screen (4*20 i.e.) with 2
buttons to naviguate into the different measures.

Is there already some available LCD schematic to be connected directly to
BAE0911 and used from OWFS ?

Any script / webpage / example available somewhere ?

Thank you

Cannot believe how stable the latest owfs is with my BAE910. Its really good, a year ago owfs and owhttpd used to fail 50% of the time when I copied the program to the device and owhttpd was not very reliable. I downloaded AE programs and tested code with owhttp for 3 hours straight the other day and it performed 100%.

I also worked with Paul to enable custom file extension in owfs. This
allows to read from a device property that require an input parameter.
For example, to read sectors from sdcard: there are too much secors to
implements an array of all sectors.
The mechanism allows now to specify .../sdcard/sector*.1234* for reading
writing to the sector 1234
many other use are possible such as specifying coordinates when writing

My current effort focus on writing aebasic compiler for bae0911.

AE version 0.14

<pre>Hi David,

Just a clarification about spi and i2c.
On bae0911, i2c is not shared with spi and they could be operated at the
same time.

some limitations exist however:

1)It was not possible to open two flows simultaneously. I've already
adressed this (software) limitation for serial interface and will also
adjust this for other flows (lcd, spi &amp; i2c) in next firmwares.

2)spi is an interface used by the onboard sdcard, connecting and external
spi device may confilict if a card is installed.
spi is generally faster than i²c and is preffered for huge data volumes,
realtime adc, storage, graphic displays, etc

3)i2c is a bus allowing multiple chips installed at the same time. each i2c
slave are addressable and will not conflict as long as their address are
distinct. (each i2c chip model has a base address and has 2 or 3 pin to
select lower bits of i2c address) i2c has "only" 7 bits for adressing,
allowing max 112 device (16 reserved)

4)Both are short distance connectivity solutions and should not extend ove</pre>

<pre>Greetings Pascal,

Thanks for the new assembler, it now compiles bot examples without
errors, the output binary look the same as your versions too. I have
compiles ae_asm for both Ubuntu and OpenRD. The new BAE0911 firmware is
working fine too. I'll have to get talking to an external device soon
:-) I have some boards with SAA1064 7 segment lcd and PCF8574 and
PCF8576 I/O iic devices on them I could try. From what you said before
about the iic and spi sharing one bus I may be better to find some SPI
devices to try, I'd better read the manual.

I have put the 911 back onto my Ubuntu server together with the DS9490R
usb bus master device. Using commands similar to your own to start
owserver, owfs, owhttpd all together I find a sure way to crash owserver
is to try and view the directory /BAE0911/911 in a web browser, if I try
and get a directory listing of the same folder it does not crash
owserver completely but afterwards the directory listing in owhttpd are
all messed up with items in the wrong locations. It</pre>

Some testing is still required, fell free to report your experience.
to avoid problems, the autostart feature of testing firmwares is disabled.

Regarding owfs-owserver stability, I recommands to start owfs deamon

here how I start my deamons:

if your are able to reproduce a straight crash scenario, you may start the
deamons with --debug option and post the output.

<pre>Hello Pascal,

You are right about the SDcard being better now, I have tried with two
of my other sdacrds which did not work before and they too work now.
I'll try some others soon and see how I get on with them. I did try to
read an 8GB card without success but I think it is to big for the 911.

Today I've installed the latest ae_asm, although it compiles the
thermostat.asm it fails on the simple.asm, see below for details. I have
not yet tried to see if the binary runs on my board. There are many
warnings about sign when thermostat.asm is being pre-processed.

I've also been investigating the instability I mentioned last week, it
seems to be to do with the combination of owserver when used with owfs
and owhttpd. accesing the 911 directory seems to be most likely to cause
the 1wie bus to completely fail, sometimes it recovers after a while but
at other times either owhttpd or owserver will stop and need restarting.
accesing the 910 directory on the other board is stable as are the other
devices on the bus s</pre>

<pre>that's good news, thanks,

Indeed, the TA=00xx output confirms that you were using the old addressing
(not using the modified ow_bae.c).

By the way, the new firmware correct a timing bug related to spi. this may
solve your issue you encountered on some (slower?)sdcard models. (sdcard use
spi interface).

<pre>Hi David,
Lcd should work with if you build owfs with ow_bae.c of downloads and
installed latest firmware from same location.
when writing 1 to 911/lcd/init, like
echo 1 &gt; /tmp/ow/bus.0/FC.000000000404/911/lcd/init
you should see the message "**BAE0911 LCD**" on lcd display
and on the serial debug, you will see: ...RSw TA=7E40 .. InitLCD:01...
then issuing:
echo 1 &gt; /tmp/ow/bus.0/FC.000000000404/911/lcd/control
will clear the display and brig the cursor at home location , on the serial
you see:
...RSw TA=7E41 ...
isuing :
echo "hello world" &gt; /tmp/ow/bus.0/FC.000000000404/911/lcd/text
should display the text on lcd and on the debug see: ...RSF...
if not the case, please send your output ..

The LCD was working fine back in January through owfs and owhttpd, I

it almost worked last week but now I cannot even initialise the display.
I'll re-check my softwares tonight but I think everything loaded
properly, perhaps I'll try the 16 June version again.

Pascal's plans look like he wants to put a mini version of inter-web
onto the device! I'd be happy if it could be a data logger and possibly
display a small graph. Keeping the system simple is probably quite
important otherwise there is the risk of re-inventing the tablet pc with
a fancy gui and all the power that needs to run.

The display module I have in mind has a character generator as well as a
graphic capability so that text could be written using ascii functions
like the character only module and drawing a graph could use vector
graphics functions running on the 911. This would then be a low
bandwidth solution suitable for owfs if necessary as there would b</pre>

<pre>Greetings Robert,

I've been following the development of the 911 &amp; 910 boards with
interest but I've not got a pressing real world use for either. I would
like to be able to use the 911 as a data logger of some kind using the
sdcard and possibly some attached 1wire or iic/spi devices. I would then
want to use the lcd deceive driven from an internal program.

Ultimately I think I would like to interface to a T6963 LCD which has a
graphic capability, I have some graphic LCD modules which I already use
with lcd4linux and would like to use one of those, these are all just
dreams at the moment though.

You mention a user interface with buttons, this would certainly be a
useful addition. The number of buttons to use is always a tricky
question, I think 6 is probably the best choice if you want to be able
to edit anything with ease. I have made user interfaces with as few as
two buttons but they are a nightmare to use for anything other than a
few items. Sometimes you have to resort to double presses or long
press</pre>

<pre>Hi David,

Don't want to overtake the thread in solving the problem with Pascal however
would like to know how you are using the screen. Are you going to just use
owfs to write to the screen or can you use the AE to write to the screen.
It would be great if we could get text from the SDcard and display this on
the LCD and then overlay a parameter value i.e.

--------------------------------

Digital Out Status

DO1 Pump 1 = OFF

---------------------------------

Then have three push buttons

- Two buttons for on/off

- Another button to increment the menu to the next selection
i.e. DO2 Light1 = ON (this single button to just cycle through the menu.)

I would be very interested in getting a menu going showing the status &amp;
manual control of the outputs for instance and one to show some byte or word
pararmeter values.

<pre>Hello Pascal,
I've put the 17 June firmware into the 911 and rebuilt owfs with the new
ow_bae.c and now I cannot get the LCD to initialise. I've tried owfs and
owhttpd without success.

The sdcard still appears to be working however.
Cheers, David.

<pre>ok, both firmware and ow_bae.c are updated. lcd/text is working again.
this problem had also an impact on sdcard, I will check that part tomorrow.

cheers.

<pre>Hi Pascal,
I see you have already uploaded a new firmware so I tried it but no
change. I noticed however that the debug menu still shows 14 June in the
serial console.
When I write to the text property using owfs I still get an invalid
argument error.
I'll try again when you have modified the owlib source too.
David.

<pre>yup, already found the problem, the flow numbers for lcd and sdcard where
changed and didn't adjusted owfs side.
I will test my quick correction and put both updated source and firmware
online.

regards.
