Rick was kind enough to reply via email "You need to have loaded the icons previously, then if I remember correctly there is a button under options to select the icon set".

I tried to email back but the message bounced. I installed Progect 0.30b6g on my palm device but could not find the option to select an icon set. Despite my lack of success, I much appreciate the attempt at help.

Best,
Lance

<pre>Ruslan,

Thanks for the pointer! :-) I recall the Geni thread you linked below and had made a mental note to check it out a year and half ago, but unfortunately, life got busy, I forgot about it and with Progect message traffic so low, the new version dropped below my radar.

I've managed to make do with 0.30b6 which for all its shortcomings is still critical to organizing my daily life. Progect is still one application I cannot do without. I look forward to Geni's improved version. Thanks again for the pointer.

Jose

<pre>Jose, all you said is true for original version. But I use 0.30b6g
modification by Geni on Palm TX and all these problems had gone since I
installed it in 2008. Linked items synchronized very well in *both*
directions! So I suggest to use it instead original 0.30b6.

<pre>No, it is written in C using a special tool chain for the Palm devices, and it is heavily designed around the functionality of the Palm, which would make it easier to just start over for the iPhone

Sorry, I know a lot of people would like it for that platform…

BTW, does anyone know if the latest Palm devices can run Java or if the iPhone can run java applications?

<pre>Yes, sorry for not addressing that in my first email.

Except for the outline doc, there really isn't any documentation.

As well, there is the PDesk desktop, some people have issues with it, but if it works for you, then it lets you edit on Mac and
Windows (and Linux).

Hi there, thanks for your response.

Part of the problem is I haven't found very extensive documentation:

I think I'm going to really like this program, but even a little
documentation (more than just the Progect ouline doc) would be very useful.

<pre>In which app are you checking the "done" box? Editing a Progect record with a "ToDo link" will not update the corresponding ToDo task in the ToDo app.

In my experience, if you check the "ToDo Link" in Progect and after Progect creates the corresponding ToDo task, from thereon the "done" box always defaults back to the state of the linked ToDo task. This is true for any changes you make in the Progect's Task Description field, Due Date and attached Note field.

I've found that the correct sequence for managing *Linked* ToDo tasks is to perform all edits and to check off "done" within the ToDo app. When you return to Progect, edits and done status will follow your ToDo app. Your other option is to uncheck the ToDo link and manage the task within Progect.

If I remember correctly, Progect synchronizes the state of the tasks when it is started. I cannot remember when it saves it back, perhaps when you close the dialog.

Does progect _always_ reset the done flag even when the task has been set as done from the task application? I am wondering if it is having trouble reading the done flag.

As well, when marked as done, does it change status in the task application?

I've just installed Progect. When I create an action task with a todo link, and check the "done" box, it unchecks every time I close and reopen the project on my palm. This appears to be true whether or not I have "hide done tasks" checked: if hidden, it will uncheck and unhide upon opening/closing.

As far as I know, everything else is working.

Also: is there a manual or help pages anywhere? I can't find one.

Thanks! Progect 0.30b6 on a Treo 750, synched to PDesk 0.8.4 on Win XP Pro.

<pre>My guess is that the Progect database is not being written/read with the correct character set.

The problem is that the Palm database needs to be converted to Unicode inside of Python, and you need to know the correct character set to use, I believe that the older code does not do this correctly.

Normally everything is fine, because most people use the Palm equivalent of straight ASCII.

PDesk needs to be changed to use a PDB reading/writing library I wrote, it should then be able to do this correctly.

The problem is that I don't really have time to work on it, but I would be more than happy to help someone else do the changes.

Rick

Error "file ... is not a progect database" after importing CSV file with diacritics into PDESK.
=====================================================================
Hello,
I tried to import CSV file (TEST6E.CSV) with Czech diacritics into PDESK
(version 0.8.4, OS Windows XP).
After saving it as a PDK file, PDESK cannot open this file with error
"file ... is not a progect database".
Similar operation with CSV file without diacritics (TEST6F.CSV) was successful.
