<pre>Dwight,

I've found reasonable replacements for the apps I enjoyed so much on my Clie. One of them is even better, thanks to features provided by the Android OS underneath.

I'm using an HTC One X+ from AT&amp;T, which was $99 with a contract extension last December. Probably cheaper now.

I got aCalendar from the app store for $3.99. It works well, I like the way swiping eases moving through the days/weeks/months. It's updated regularly, looks good on the screen and is pretty intuitive to use.

Tasks &amp; notes are by-products of the sync program Local Sync. (I will not give my info to the cloud, so I had to find a solution besides Google account sync.) Local sync allows me to sync tasks, notes, calendar to Outlook, which makes me very happy. It syncs designated files as well. The developer is very active.

I'm going with the native contacts app for now, though it has a couple rough edges that may have me looking for a replacement at some point.

ToMarketPro provides a replacement for HandyShopper. It operates simi</pre>

I put together a list of all the things I would hope for if I ever replaced my Palm device. I occasionally post the list to see if there are any replacement candidates, but so far the Palm TX paired with an old blue tooth phone is by far the best solution for me. I also have several Treo and Centro phones that I alternate from time to time. When I post the list of stuff that the palm does, it always surprises people. My wife's phone is great for media, but the basic calendar, notes, tasks, contacts, lists features are way below palm. She encourages me to upgrade, but I have to remind her that I want a phone that is like me, old and cheap. :-)

Anyway, thank you for keeping this list over the years. It has been a great source of information.

Best Regards,
Dwight...

Ah, yeah, I remember now. Hopefully Bob will see your messages and help
you get rid of the nag screen. I doubt if he cares about it much any more.
I'm with you on the Palm OS thing. I still use HandyShopper regularly

go shopping. I even still use CryptInfo to keep all my passwords and

<pre>I would like to get the nag screen removed. At start it tells me that I have _ of 30 days remaining. If I knew where to purchase, I would be glad to purchase so the nag would go away. I wouldn't expect any support, even though I would be grateful for any he would offer. I have also sent messages to the rMobile.ca sales email address and posted on his yahoo group page, but I haven't heard anything. I am hoping that he is still monitoring somewhere.

I am still hanging on to my Palm devices and and loving it. HS is one of the greatest. I am still occasionally and pleasantly surprised when I find new stuff, or at least new to me. I often regret that when HS was listed as a "post card" application that I did not send post cards from my postings. I have lived in a whole lot of places over the last 30 years and most of them are outside the USA.

Best Regards,
Dwight...

Yep, both by same developer, Bob.
All his apps work great, and he's a great guy.
As HandyShopper is no longer in development, the supporting apps are
also no longer needing updates.
That's not to say something can't go amiss on newer versions of Windows

<pre>Greetings,

I have just found "HandyShopper Desktop" at rMobile.ca and am wondering if anyone has any experience with it. It is a beta with the last release on in 2010 and it appears to work great.

There is also a version of HS2Edit on the site so I guess this is the developer of that program as well, but I am not sure.

I look forward to any comments.

Dennis,

I am also using ToMarket, and when I type "light" in the search box, it finds and displays all on one screen "light bulbs 60W", "light bulbs 60W vibration resistant", "light bulbs for bed lamps", "light bulbs for ceiling fan", and even "kitchen floodlight bulb". I can check one or all without having to search again.

I think you may need to go to Settings and un-check "Enable Search Box Auto Clear". I have a hunch that will solve your problem. ToMarket is very customizable.

Greg G, I hope you don't mind my responding to Dennis on this here; but since my install of ToMarket was working as he said he would like, it seemed to me that this probably wasn't a shortcoming of the program, but likely just a setting; and I felt it was important to clear this up for members of the group who might be considering using ToMarket. In that context, I hope Dennis will let us know whether my suggestion took care of his problem.

<pre>I also tried many of the list and shopping apps and one offered in HanDBase. ToMarket is also the one I've settled on as closest to HS. The biggest annoyance I've found is each item must be found and selected individually, as compared to HS. Example, if my list included paper plates, paper towels, and paper cups, in HS I could search for paper and just check the three items. In ToMarket, each must be found separately and selected. That annoyance aside, I've still used it for about over a year. As noted in this thread, the developer has been responsive. I too encountered a severe problem with special characters when I converted. He quickly developed a solution that worked.

<pre>I went through the Android app store for a while, installing shopping and list apps for a day or two and discarding them when they couldn't do something I considered essential -- spoiled rotten by years of HS on my WM phone.

Be aware I didn't even consider any apps that wanted to my Contacts or Phone or any such frippery. I'm old school on security.

I ended up with ToMarket. It has the same item-centric approach that powers HS, with an item able to participate in multiple lists (DBs in HS parlance) and stores. Aisle, price and category are variable per store. I don't use the price features at all and can't comment on their functionality or similarity to HS.

After installation and playing with it for a bit, liking the voice search and voice item addition even when not connected to the web. The free version maxed out at 20 items, though that was enough for me to take it on a grocery trip. I tried it with the "whole item is a button" on and off. I guessed it would have been one or the other, either way - a manual
would have cleared this from the start, and I would have probably been a
new customer.

I've written software before, what might be intuative to me, might not
be to someone else - talking to your users is an absolute must to
address this.

And at the very least, an FAQ would have nailed that in short order
(still not there, just checked), it has a wiki, but no link to the wiki
page. After checking the wiki, it appears to be entirely centred around
the Windows CE/Phone devices and ActiveSync only.

Besides, I've already been through this the first time around, and
STILL can't make any light of it other than what was mentioned on this
thread.

<pre>The replacement I use is Grocery Gadget by Flixoft. It doesn't appear to
be set up like Handyshopper at first glance, but I think I have it set
up pretty close. I'm wondering if you tried this one.

It has a master list of items, which keep aisle and store info, and
those items can be added to multiple lists, such as Groceries; it's set
up so that when you want to prepare for shopping, you pick your list
(i.e. Groceries), then start going down the items and adding quantities
(via + and - buttons). When you're ready to shop, you pick a store out
of a dialog box (which only shows stores that are linked to the items in
your list). You can sort by alphabetical order or by aisles, or by
categories if you elect not to customize the aisles for a particular store.

In my case, I have the aisles customized for the grocery store I shop at
most often, but not for the ones I sometimes shop at instead; when I

I found the method to be easy enough. There's a feature within StyleTap
that basically makes it a fileserver, and it tells you what IP to
address in your computer's web browser, which then has a java program to
let you copy/move between the computer and the device. Nifty, but not

RAM, but I don't recall the exact name of it.
