<pre>Welcome to the forum!

I wish that I knew the answers to any of your questions. In the meantime, though, I would like to ask you about StyleTap.

So, do you enter calendar information directly into your iPhone's StyleTap program that has DateBk? My understanding is that a person in your position is not able to HotSync information between your computer and your iPhone's StyleTap/DateBk, is that correct?

If you ever lose your iPhone, what (if any) back-up or syncing system are you relying on for that sort of worst-case scenario?

When you enter information into StyleTap/DateBk, does the "normal" iPhone keyboard pup-up, just like any other aspect of the iPhone?

Thanks very much,

HyperScheduler

<pre>A true, boolean, search was always one of the vital features of palm os. I know there are a zillion other priority todo's on cesd's plate, but, oh how I hope it's high on the list.
That's one of those things, like datebook itself, that the overwhelming majority of people know nothing about. Nor do they know what a powerful tool they're missing. But, once they're shown, nothing else will do..

<pre>Hi all,

Although a long-time Palm DateBk addict, I only joined today.

Before I detail my problem for which I hope someone here may have a solution, let me give you my specific context, in the event that it is important for finding an answer.

I used to use Datebk on my Palm III, then switched to a Handera. After the Handera stopped being supported, and Palm went the way you all know, I switched to an iPhone. But couldn't live without DateBk (or HandyShopper, for that matter)! To get Datebk back, I had to jailbreak the iPhone to install the Palm emulator by StyleTap. And that is currently the setup that I am using -- a jailbroken iPhone 3G running iOS 3.1.3, StyleTap v.0.9.013 (the latest), and Datebk6.1b, s2.

Until recently, I used an older version of Datebk6. When StyleTap released their current better version, I also updated my Datebk6 to the latest version.

I'm now trying to figure out two things:

A) Why an appointment formatted to appear in bold and red will pretend to be bold and red while I'm wor</pre>

<pre>iPhone - still unlikely - as entire application would have to be rewritten
from scratch (minimum of 6-mos - year's work - maybe more) and in a
different programming language which itself has a learning curve. Mac is far
more likely as if Apple supports Sun/Oracle JVM (and there have been rumors
that this will happen now) then the pure java code of Pimlical should
migrate without a huge amount of effort.

IOS has some architectural limitations which is one of the reasons no one is
that happy about the third party calendar apps on iPhone, and those
limitations would also affect Pimlical.

And on top of that, iPhone and Android users are expecting applications to
be a fraction of the cost of what the Palm apps were, and still hope for the
same level of support. I am very concerned about what the support is going
to look like on Pimlical/Android when it's released on the Android market
(one of the reasons I have not released it yet, as I want to be sure it's as
stable as possible).

Cheers!

<pre>Oh well, maybe sometime prior to 2035 there will be a hand held with calendar, task, contact and note applications that are close to Palm. Specifically, a Palm with DateBook, CanDo, MemoLeaf and any of the many contact applications that I use on my TX and Treo/Centro. Or maybe I will just reach total enlightenment prior to then and transcend space and time.

<pre>Greetings All,

As a long time DateBook user with two licenses, and a dug in Palm OS user with 3 back-up TX, 3 Centros and 2 Treo 680s, I would like to request that the template dates be moved to a later year. I am more worried each year that 2020 will arrive and my DateBook templates will become obsolete; however, I don't expect that my Palm OS devices will ever become obsolete.

Thank you for your support and consideration.

<pre>Although it does not replace DateBk (nothing will) I'd recommend that former DateBk users who have migrated to iPhone have a look at Week Calendar for iPhone. BusyCal is a decent desktop calendar and BusyToDo is a good (but pricey) To Do manager. As I said, not nearly what DateBk provides/provided, but better than Apple's built-in apps.

...but that's just my opinion.

Question for CESD

<pre>Hello CESD,

I periodically write asking the (same) following question...... Would you please consider writing DateBk for iOS5 (iPhone and iPad) and Pimlical for MacOS Lion? I was a long time user of DateBk on a Palm TX and since switching to my iPhone and iPad have not been able to find a comparable calendar program. My home and office are all Mac all the time....MacBook Pro, MacBook, MacBook Air, iPad 1, iPad 2 and two iPhone 4s. I hope your position has softened since I last wrote....please tell me you are considering adding OS to your stable of products. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Hello CESD,

about that next release, will you also fix some of the other issues?

One thing that prevented me from running the V-6.1b versions are the &lt;Modified:&gt; tags. I don't want to see every event with a note icon on the desktop (Jpilot), and the tags sometimes appeared in the middle of the note text or at the start of the second line before a [link ...] tag. An option to suppress tags that are only needed for syncing with Pimlical would be nice.

Best regards,
Bernd

<pre>Thanks for all the replies.

I started towards the stated goal by charging up the spare device(s), then I synced Palm-in-use, then I synced Palm 2, but I think.... I should've zeroed Palm 2 beforehand.... So I'm still using Unit 1, I need to manually backup data from non-Palm apps, as unit 2 has back level data on non-Palm apps...

I thought (our maybe didn't think?)that non-Palm apps will aquire up to date data from sync...

Had I zeroed the unit before, if know what I'm getting...

Anyhow, thanks again for all the comments and suggestions

<pre>

Thank you for raising this issue, Voytek. I recently (finally!) found my lost Treo 650 so I have been thinking of this issue quite a bit actually.

It never occured to me to use a miniSD card in this particular context. I will need to investigate that. In the meantime, here is how I would like to do it:

Pimlical Desktop is HotSynced into the Treo 650. Use the Treo 650 for a solid month, adjusting the DateBk6 settings to be the best possible on the specific device of a Treo 650. HotSync the Treo 650 into Pimlical Desktop throughout the month (every night or three).

Then, after performing a final HotSync from the Treo 650 into Pimlical Desktop at the end of the month, engage in another HotSync *from* Pimlical Desktop *to* a Treo 755p. Repeat as above, but use a Treo 755p throughout the month and HotSync into Pimlical every night or three.

Then repeat the same process for a Palm TX.

Then repeat the same process for a Centro.

In this scenario, one's calendar is kept updated in two places: Pimlical D</pre>
