Wow, that caused a boatload of other packages to be rebuilt, including
qemu-native, which took forever :-(

This did remove the problem - there is now only the build tree with
the short hash name. Sadly, it's also now forcing me to basically
rebuild everything to get back to being able to build my image, just
what I didn't want to happen.

Oh well, once this finished I'm sure all will be fine again. At least
my pain may help others that might experience this, although I don't
know how many folks do very long term development/builds in a single
tree. This one has been one of my main projects and was started in
early March with more than 500 builds (entries in tmp/log/cooker)!

Thanks

gcc 4.8

I found an issue w/ the gcc 4.8 in oe-core as on Monday. Some of my automated
build machines are RHEL 5.9 machines. These boxes have a host compiler that
does not support -Wno-narrowing and -Wno-overlength-strings. Unfortunately,
when building target gcc (via the cross compiler) the system tries to use target
compiler options on the system host compiler.

I tracked this down to the configure script checks support for those warnings
(and others), but it only looks with the $CC value. It then passes these values
in via LOOSE_WARN and STRICT_WARN.. eventually these go through the system and
end up in BUILD_COMPILERFLAGS via ALL_CXXFLAGS via WARN_CXXFLAGS via
GCC_WARN_CXXFLAGS... So configure checking only the cross compiler is the issue.

Below is the error that I got:

g++  -c   -O2 -pipe -g -fvisibility-inlines-hidden -DIN_GCC   -fno-exceptions
-fno-rtti -fasynchronous-unwind-tables -W -Wall -Wno-narrowing -Wwrite-strings
-Wcast-qual -Wmissing-format-attribute -pedantic -Wno-long-long
-Wno-var

[PATCH 1/1] dropbear: a fix for hang in dropbearkey,built for x32

From: Nitin A Kamble <nitin.a.kamble-ral2JQCrhuEAvxtiuMwx3w< at >public.gmane.org>

This commit fixes runtime hang of 'dropbearkey' utility, built for a x32
target abi system. The hang was observed while generating ssh keys, with
this command:
  dropbearkey -t dss -f private

The issue is fixed by changing the code, where 'long' in x86_64 mode is
assumed as 64bit quantity. With the x32 abi, the processor is in x86_64
mode, but the 'long' is a 32bit quantity. Hence the fix uses 'long long'
instead of 'long' to define/access 64bit data variables.

Fixes bug:

BTW, this caused such a mess in my build tree that I nearly had to
start completely from scratch. I was able to recover only by very
drastic measures - the following steps were used on more than a dozen
packages that got confused:
   find sstate-cache -name "*${PKG}*" -exec rm -fr \{} \;
   rm -fr tmp/stamps/*/${PKG}
   bitbake ${PKG} -c cleansstate
   rm -fr tmp/work/*/${PKG}
Anything less that this giant sledge-hammer and the confusion only
continued. At least now I can build my images again...

I have not dug into it too deeply, but I think this update is causing a
problem with gtk-engines test Makefile, there is a section that has
$(patsubst incomplete.

From the Makefile.in that is generated from Makefile.am

$(patsubst.log: $(patsubst
         < at >p='$(patsubst'; \
         b='$(patsubst'; \
         $(am__check_pre) $(LOG_DRIVER) --test-name "$$f" \

         $(am__common_driver_flags) $(AM_LOG_DRIVER_FLAGS)
$(LOG_DRIVER_FLAGS) -- $(LOG_COMPILE) \

That does not look right!

Instead of reporting an error when bb cannot be imported, skip the test
instead. This makes it a lot easier to iterate a test suite when we don't care
about this particular test.

[PATCH] binutils: the cat should always succeed whenbuilding config.cache

There is a race condition between when the CONFIG_SITE list is generated and
then used here via the cat to create the config.cache and in *all* configure
scripts when reading from CONFIG_SITE.

The race in this case is that the sstate setscene task runs on a package that
contains a site config file (ncurses in this case) and then bitbake decides
that it needs to rebuild and cleans out the site config file, so it existed
for siteinfo_get_files() to find in SITECONFIG_SYSROOTCACHE and then was removed
for the rebuild. When bintuils tried to run the do_configure() task which creates
the binutil's version of config.cache it reads from CONFIG_SITE which now contains
the non-existant site config file. (confused yet ;-)?

Currently the configure script does a test -r to ensure the file is readable
before using it, therefore having the cat succeed regardless of the file being
available is consistent behaviour.

Could the issue be that the file -was- there, then we ncurses updated it and now
it's no longer there? (or in the process of being written?)

I've definitely seen this failure before.. so there is some kind of race.

Ignore this patch, I was quick on the draw and did not notice the
listdir which means the file is there,

Sau!
