Since this didn't seem likely to get resolved correctly, I have used
DIST_SUBDIR in pkgsrc, which lets a recorded hash be associated with a
(local) storage location. This ensures that the old copy (same name,
different bits) will not be checked for hash corectness and fail.

I get it that the offiical mirrors all have only the new version. The
issue is that users (and packaged build systems) had downloaded the old
version already.

Not quite; the point of 0.19.3 is that once that is released all
packaging systems can update to it and the confusion about 0.19.2
becomes no longer relevant.

From my end, I've worked around this in pkgsrc, so it's not bothering me
any more. But in general I think all projects should adhere to a
named-tarballs-never-ever-change policy, partly for this, and partly to
avoid security false alarms.

I guess you are right. I use "-2" for the windows installer, but I
assume I'm using my windows packaging hat and not my upstream hat for
that.

Anyway, the damage is already done, so there is no point in releasing
0.19.3 now.

Thanks for the explanation.

Could you bump to 0.19.3 and re-release? Otherwise packaging systems
have to kludge around having two files with the same name but different
contents out there. (0.19.2 would still have the issue, but it would
become irrelevant.)

(It would be really nice to bump the version if there is a new file,
because silent changes are worrisome, and at least pkgsrc expects to
cache distfiles based on sha1.)

The way I understand it, dh-autoreconf was not complaining that the
generated files were supplied in the source tarball.
I only noticed the issue when I built from CVS where the files were not
supplied, so dh-autoreconf was complaining that files had been generated
but not properly cleaned up.

dh-autoreconf runs 'make -j1 distclean' at the start of the build process,
but that does not remove ufraw.1 and icons/ufraw_icons.h.
Having a look at Makefile.am and icons/Makefile.am I see they have been
defined as MAINTAINTERCLEANFILES.
If they are changed to DISTCLEANFILES, as in the following patches, the
issue goes away and I don't need to make exceptions for these files.

make sense to intentionally regenerate files and object to them being
different. Is ufraw somehow special from the debian viewpoint? I would
expect the exact same issue with many packges.

<pre>Thanks, that knocks about 30% off the size of the tarball.

I should have been clearer in my first message.
Building with Debian's dh-autoreconf produces a list of unexpected
changes. These are normally a sign that the build did not clean up
properly.
When I built from CVS it detected that these files changed (were created),
but building from the source tarball did not show these errors, as the
generated files must have been identical to the provided files.

I just wanted to make you aware of this, but it does not cause any problems
for me.
I can easily make exceptions for ufraw.1 and icons/ufraw_icons.h.

<pre>Thanks, I will test now.

Just to be clear, should I be enabling JPG2000 support for Ubuntu? Is
there anywhere I can get a sample image for testing?

I made the last changes that I planned for this release. I hope to
release ufraw 0.19.2 in about 24 hours.

Please test and let me know if I broke something.

There are two flavors of generated files, more or less for tools the
users are expected to have (and documented to require!), and for tools
they are not expected to have.

So I'm not sure about po/*.gmo. The other two perhaps should not be
present.

<pre>Hi

I noticed this while building 0.19.2 from CVS this morning.

Is there any reason to ship po/*.gmo, ufraw.1 and icons/ufraw_icons.h in
the source tarball?

Regards
Graham

Re: gimp-remote functionality

<pre>The patch below has been in Debian's ufraw package since 0.14.1-3 (2008-12-20) [1], relating to Debian bug #504260 [2]. It is currently in Ubuntu's ufraw 0.19.1 package as well.

The package maintainer's comments were:
"Default to using gimp rather than gimp-remote, since gimp 2.4 already has the -remote functionality."

If I understand correctly, shouldn't that condition check whether gimp is &gt;= 2.4, or if we don't care about versions of gimp that old, maybe always use 'gimp' instead of 'gimp-remote'?

I have changed the condition check to &gt;= 2.4.0 after checking the GIMP code. Regards,Niels Kristian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
