There is a solution, but TeX is not it.

I am a linguist. At one time or another I have needed just about every
character in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), including all
the diacriticals:

http://www.omniglot.com/writing/ipa.htm

Unless TeX can enter all the combining diacriticals on the above link
it will not do for me. In Scribus or LO Writer on Linux I can enter any
of them easily just by using the Unicode value for the combining
diacritical. Of course, I use the Junicode font for everything, since it
was created by Prof. Peter Baker for use in classics and linguistics and
has just about every character I might need, including ordinary
typesetting niceties like true small caps, old style numerals, swashes,
and lots more. But even if I convince TeX to use Junicode it still has
no way to enter all the diacriticals that I need.

I want a document which has the cover numbered as ``A'', and page 1 (which comes after the cover and is the second page in the .pdf) to be numbered as page 1. See the attached .pdf which I've renumbered manually using Acrobat (sent directly to Czarek, since it made the message over-sized for the list)

I did that --- had to in order to get the cover numbered as ``A''.

The problem comes when I export to a .pdf --- I want Step 1, which is the second page in the .pdf to be numbered as page 1 --- when I export, the cover is 1 (should be ``A''), and Step 1 is page 2.

I had attached the Scribus file (w/ 2 pages, section one is page 1 numbered as ``A'', section two is page 2 numbered as ``1''), and a .pdf which I've renumbered manually using Acrobat --- if anyone is curious to see them, contact me off-list.

I dont get what you want to do...
But if want to switch off numeration for cover (first two and last two pages in
Scribus project) you should use sections and numeration setup for them.
Take a look at Document Setup and find Sections in it.

the end. I have no intention of generating a discussion here of what is
or what is not graphic design about. But i'm very sure it's not like
working with squares, and if the squares doesn't work maybe i change it
for circles, or triangles maybe, because it implicates a new level of
significance. A typographic choice isn't arbitrary (i suppose that you
can tell the difference between Comic Sans or Helvetica or whatever font
you like) and it's followed by what you want to communicate in that
certaint way to a predetermined public or receptor. I repeat, i do need
to work with a determined font to communicate a specific message. So
tell me, if you take a look at the snapshot above, how do you insert
that glyphs if Scribus doesn't know how to render it?

Hi all,

Some of you are probably already aware that an import filter for PUB files has been added to 1.5.0svn and is ready for testing.

Here's what you need to have and to do:

1) Download libmspub v. 0.0.6 here: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/libmspub/ or check out the libmspub git repository.

2) Compile and install libmuspub via the old-fashioned ./configure, make, make install.

3) After installing via "make install" run "ldconfig" (as root).

4) In the plugins/import directory in the Scribus source tree edit the file CMakeLists.txt and remove "# " from the line "# ADD_SUBDIRECTORY(pub)".

5) If you have built Scribus 1.5.0svn before, remove the file CMakeCache.txt from the ~/Scribus directory.

6) Run cmake as usual and install.

There are hundreds of PUB files available on the web. Happy Testing!

Hi,

Sorry that I can not follow conversations to perfection, my native
language is Spanish. I tested version 1.4 Scribus and still can not come
up with a way to put these stylistic alternates, which I think is very
useful when designing. The lower case numbers, also called old-style
figures, are practical when applying a particular style to any graphic
design work, but more importantly, when to apply numbering in a non
intrusive in a text where are purely letters. A few years ago i was
using proprietary software-InDesign-for my editorial work, but since
then, I focus on free software as the main tools for production. I
remember in InDesign-without any intention of making stupid comparisons-
placing such lower case numbers and stylistic alternatives (for example,
some fonts bring the number zero with a slash across it from side to
side, and some other variants) were as simple as selecting it in the
paragraph style editor. I read the mails without finding any solution
and I wonder why this feat

JJJ> Having done that, repeat the exercise with an m. Now you will see
JJJ> that the syllabic diacritic is not centered under the m as it was
JJJ> with the n. For a further exercise, repeat with an l, which will
JJJ> further demonstrate the problem of centering the diacritic.

For OpenType, fonts are supposed to have attachment points for each
glyph which allow the combining glyphs properly to arrange.

When I tried you example, « n̩ m̩ l̩ » in my terminal emulator (using
DejaVu Sans Mono), all of the combined glyphs looked perfect.

They also look right with Dejavu Serif.

But fonts which lack attachment points (notably including all of the
non-Free fonts I could test) the results are very poor.

Okay, I had to split the cover off from the instructions steps in the Shapeoko assembly files.

I'd like to attach the cover to the text block, but I want it numbered as page i or A or CV1, but using pdftk:

pdftk Shapeoko_Build_Instructions_Cover_v1j.pdf Shapeoko_Build_Instructions_v1j.pdf cat output Shapeoko_Build_Instructions_v1j_cover.pdf

resultes in a .pdf numbered from 1--14 --- suggestions?

Will Latex center the diacritical mark on the letter? Can it do
diacriticals under the letter as well? And can it do any diacritical
contained in the font (as a combining diacritical)? If not, is there a
list somewhere of which diacriticals it can do?
