<pre>Kavar, Alvin, Jonathas,

Thanks for the responses. I did not know about the changing the display
mode...and the graticules become visible. I actually fixed it another
way, changing the ps to pdf (ps2pdf) then to svg (pdf2svg) I'm running
linux. Strange they are visible in ghost view and other viewers.

  I imported your file in inkscape(0.48+devel r11311)
  and the graticules exist ^^.
try change to outline view mode (ctrl+5 two times) and you will see all paths and shapes perfectly , but, exist paths without colors, just apply any color .

  2012/5/9 alvinpenner &lt;penner-5nkdfOpXUytBDgjK7y7TUQ&lt; at &gt;public.gmane.org&gt;

confirmed on Windows 7, Inkscape 0.48.3.1. The missing lines appear to be all
present in the Inkscape svg file, but they have the properties fill:none and
stroke:none so they are invisible. They are visible in other viewers, so
    this is an Inkscape bug.

<pre>Hi Rob,
my Inkscape is down at the moment but I looked at your file with Xara and Corel Draw.

I opened it with CD4 and it appeared OK. It is an Antarctica map with the graticule overlying it and numbers around the outer circle?.
Xara DP6 could not open it.

I then used DocsPal to convert the file to map1.pdf. Then it opened in both CD4 and Xara.

You will probably have to do some recombining to get back to what you want since the bits are all in one layer at present. However there should be no trouble in adding text to a new layer.

I am using Win XP. Let me know if you want a pdf.

<pre>Good day everyone,

I'm trying to import a GMT generated map (ps file) into inkscape (so I
can add an extra layer and lots of text) but the graticules disappear.
The map is attached. It was generated with this command (pscoast
-R-180/180/-90/-60 -Js0/-90/1:40000000 -B30g30/g10 -Dc -G200 -P -V &gt;
map1.ps).

Once imported into inkscape the graticules disappear. They are, however,
still visible in the import window.

Does anyone have an explanation for this and how I can fix it (I'm
guessing it is an inkscape problem because they are visible with the gs,
pdf viewers), In fact do others see this behaviour ?

regards,

Rob Briggs

<pre>Hi!

While I click and drag with the bezier pen tool, I get those nice bezier
handles so can shape bezier curves accurately.
The moment I close a path, and then select the node-editing tool, i can
click on nodes, but i don't get those bezier-rubberbands
or handles, so can shape the curves further.

When I convert an object to path, and attempt to re-shape a segment or a
curve, I still don't get those bezier-handles anymore.

Might I have accidentally switched off their view? Have tried everywhere,
can't seem to find the option.
How do I get those back please?

I could happily edit curves in this version ever since it was released, but
it just stopped one fine day a few months ago.

FYI, I'm using 0.46-devel on my production-stable ubuntu 9.04 on a
macbookpro.
Can't change this in a hurry either.

Making an easy build unavailable. I have tried to a build (0.48.2) from

Suggestions please?

It might be easier for you to stick what you intend to lock on a separate layer so you can toggle

The image is a SVG file, all vector, but "I" made it, a human. No trace
program today can trace a photograph and do it to vector with this quality.

Vektor for webb is mostly logotypes, illustrations that have few colors.
Trace photographs to vector can bee a expression, a manner. But they
have few colors, like two or a few more/, but not //16,7 million colors
as a bitmap can have. ///If you for example set the trace program to 6
million colors (I don't think it's possible) then you have SVG file with
so much code, it's humungous, and for the web browser to read the code,
and download it take time, a lot of time.

<pre>Hi Pranav,

That would be true of a from-scratch SVG that's truly a vector graphic,
but I don't think it would be true for an SVG'ized JPG that's basically
an SVG wrapper around a JPG bitmap. I think you mentioned earlier in
this thread that your photos are over a megabyte in size. That should
scale pretty well on everything but the biggest screens.

You never mentioned whether these will be used in a website, a PDF
document, an EPUB book, or something else. Where will they be used?

<pre>Hi nicu,

the images are phhotos. The reason I am converting to SVG is that if I
understand things correctly, it will scale better on a variety of devices
and screen sizes.

If your images are photos, then SVG probably is not the right format for
them, the result will be huge and at a bad quality.
If the images are drawings, then the best is to trace and then manually
adjust the result (or even redraw them - a manual trace).
