OpenAFS 1.7.12 is the latest in a new series of OpenAFS clients for the
Microsoft Windows platform that is implemented as a native file system.

The significant changes since 1.7.11 are:

* Windows cache coherency issues fixed.

* Fix BSOD condition

     object simultaneously resulting in memory corruption.
   . the stack is exhausted as a side effect of an out of
     memory condition.

* Prevent a potential AFS FileLock leak during file cleanup.

* Improved handling of VNOVOL and VOFFLINE errors when produced
   by the file server during a volume backup, readonly release
   or salvage operation.

* Reduced CPU utilization.

1.7.12 is the recommended release of OpenAFS for Microsoft Windows
users. It supports Microsoft Windows client operating systems from
Windows XP SP3 through Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server operating
systems from 2003 SP2 through 2008 R2 SP1.  The 1.7.12 Windows client is
fully compatible with all AFS server versions.

activities in site reports. Please submit proposals by email to
openafs-conf< at >inf.ed.ac.uk.

Come talk to your peers in general about:

   * Completed projects
   * Work in progress
   * Case studies
   * Best practices
   * Related research
   * Theories, new ideas

circumstances cause data loss in replicated volumes.
Additional details are available in the release notes.

Bug reports should be filed to openafs-bugs< at >openafs.org.

Thanks are due as usual to our dedicated team of binary builders
(Douglas Engert, Christof Hanke, and Ben Kaduk) without whom the broad

Dear all,

next week many AFS and Kerberos admins, users and developers will be gathering
in Hamburg, Germany for the 2011 European AFS & Kerberos Conference.

The conference plan is available under https://indico.desy.de/event/eakc2011

As contributions are still being submitted the timetable will still grow and
increase in diversity over the coming days.

Do use this once-in-a-year opportunity to get into contact with your peers
and some of the AFS gatekeepers during three days of presentations, discussions
and workshops.

Registration for the last-minute decision makers among you is still open!

Hoping to see you in Hamburg,
for the conference team,

OpenAFS 1.7.1 is the first in a new series of OpenAFS clients for the
Microsoft Windows platform that is implemented as a native file system.
In brief, the benefits of the 1.7.1 release are:

   Authentication Groups
* New Explorer Shell integration including AFS specific property sheets
* Immediate access to \\AFS namespace after system resume
* AFS Mount Points and Symlinks are File System Reparse Points

It supports Microsoft Windows client operating systems from Windows XP
SP3 through Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server operating systems from 2003

client is fully compatible with all AFS server versions.

The OpenAFS Gatekeepers are pleased to announce the availability of OpenAFS
version 1.6.0. Source files and available binaries can be accessed via
the web at:

OpenAFS 1.6.0 also represents the first release fully supporting
MacOS Lion, and sites running the initial release should upgrade.

Bug reports should be filed to openafs-bugs< at >openafs.org.

This is the long due public announcement of the

                  2011 European AFS and Kerberos Conference

taking place in Hamburg, Germany from Oct 4th through Oct 7th 2011.

Please find details at  https://indico.desy.de/event/eakc2011

The call for abstracts is open and do feel free to submit your presentation
proposals.
As always the conference will examine the development outlook for AFS and
Kerberos implementations, it will highlight current projects and will offer
space to proposals and new ideas. Also, sites will be able to present their
AFS and Kerberos activities in site reports.
On the last day of the conference, we are planning to have time for tutorials,
hands-on workshops and for those interested tours of the DESY research site.

As always, the program will allow for informal discussions and exchanges as
well.

Due to some formal constraints, the conference attendance registration will
open in the course of the coming week.
The conference fee for academic attendees will be under € 1
