indeed something has changed - during the migration of mlmmj I have seen
that the bounce processing didn't work reliably, which it now does.

What happens is that when a message is bounced, mlmmj takes note of
that. If addresses bounce for a week, they are unsubscribed. If some
messages bounce, such an informational message is sent, which is what
your users are seeing.

Can you maybe forward me such an info message? I'd like to check which
messages were affected. Either some have been marked as spam and thus
refused, or we need to lower the sending level to those sites.

I recall that certain .fr sites were really complicated to deal with in
the early days, with no postmaster to contact :/

Hi Flo, Christian,

Some subscribers of the users< at >fr list seems to have issues (since about
3 weeks) with some messages sent by Mlmmj, all about messages from the
list that can't be delivered. My translation: [Some messages can't be
delivered. If you see this message, that means that every thing has come
back to normal now and it is only for information].

It seems that this happens with users who have < at >wanadoo or < at >orange
addresses. Is there something we can do on our side?

Kind regards

Hi guys,

First of all, thanks Florian for your mail about staying on-topic - it
was completely right. Personally, I receive enough garbage in my
mailbox not to welcome more sent via a mailing list that I
specifically allow as useful/desired content.

Secondly, I'd certainly warn the moderators about engaging in
conversations with people who are actually the source of spam and
off-topic content that we are supposed to be filtering out.

It's surprising what can actually be learned about you/us and used
against your intentions by interacting with these people...

Just a little 2 cents. I'll return to the background now.

during the last days, we have seen a huge amount of discussions, mostly
offtopic. I'd like to remind everyone about the purpose of this mailing
list - discussion amongst list moderators for topics specifically
concerning list moderation, nothing else.

I have seen several people unsubscribing from this list and writing to
me in private that they left because of the sheer amount of offtopic
discussions. Moderators unsubscribing from this list renders its purpose
useless.

As much as I love that the community also discusses other topics, even
non-LibreOffice ones, I really have to ask to stay ontopic on the lists.

In the future, I see no other choice than putting those on forced
moderation who will continously write offtopic e-mails. I really dislike
doing so, but in the light of the recent events, this seems to be my
only option. Losing people who are distracted and upset because of
offtopic discussions is poison for the community.

But here's the long version about why letting the group know "what's

1) you let the mail pass to the list

Please do *not* forward messages you have moderated, particularly those
you have rejected, to others.

It adds more amount of work to them and fills their inboxes. Plus, in
case you forward spam messages that also contain the LibreOffice URL
(e.g. via the +reject address), you definitely risk that our (!) mail
server is blocked for forwarding spam, or rather some of our URLs for
appearing in spam e-mails.

This risk is not just a theory - it happened several times in the past.

Please just moderate a message through or reject it, that's it. Very
easy. ;-)

Hi :)
There are a whole bunch of us that are new here and we are still trying to find the optimal work-flow.

Anne's seems to make sense to me but obviously people that have been here longer either
1. don't mind duplicating each others work a lot of the time or
2. they have some cunning way of "magically knowing" when someone else has moderated a message.

Some of us noobs here can't believe it's number 1 but it does seem like that might be the case. I assumed Simos' suggestion was a joke made through frustration. Once we understand it better things should settle down and we might be able to help other noobs more easily in the future.

Apols and regards from
Tom :)
