FWIW, all three will Save As in MS Office formats, for those that need
to share a file with someone else. In addition, OS X allows you to save
that file as a PDF file from the Save/Save As print dialog.

The downside of saving as MS Office format, I think you are l likely to
lose some formatting the OS X are capable of that MS formats are not. I
know this is true for Keynote to PowerPoint files.

As for the other two... I never liked Pages, just a personal
preference, so don't use it. But, our club newsletter creator has
created quite the results with Pages. I'm not sure I'd want to tackle
it in MS Word. As for Numbers, never used it, as to me all the
spreadsheets may as well be identical. I use a spreadsheet for simple
number crunching, not a graphing program, or database program.

I have to say, some will, but you have to understand the results might
not be what you want. That's a problem with importing any file created
by any program, in either direction, as I noted with Keyno

work in the same way as ODF formats in the fact they are some form of
compressed archive. I was able to explore them through a archive such as

SOLVED!

Thanks to all of you for patiently talking this through with me until I found the problem.

It was this--

First I put my fonts into /usr/share/fonts/truetype and when that didn't work, I put them into home/.fonts. I remembered that just now and deleted them from the former to see what would happen. And it solved the problem. Now I have them all recognized and working.

But it's odd that the malfunction was so selective about which fonts not to set up properly.

I opened the font files with font viewer and they all list as already installed. And they show up in LO's font listing, but whenever I try to use one I just get a blank--the insert cursor disappears and no text. But if I change to, say, Arial, then the text reappears.

So the fonts are installed or sort of half-installed, and LO recognizes them to the extent of listing them, but refuses to use them.

Is the font .ttf or .otf?

I know that some systems will allow you to just put the font in the font
folder, with no issues, but I find that if you do a font install
procedure, it may work better - for some systems.

I forget, are you using Win7 or other Windows OS?

For Windows, have you used their font installation procedure or did you
just place the font into the font folder? Each Windows font install
procedure seems to be a little different. I tend to place all my
to-be-installed fonts in their own folder. Then I use
Control-Panel/Fonts and add the fonts there - for the older version of
Windows. For the newer versions of Windows. I just highlight the list
of font files and right-click them and use the "install" option. I
never just place the fonts into the system's font folder directly.

Hi--

Tom, I'm not sure that your response is to me. "That should work" doesn't compute & I've already given the details you ask for. But here goes again.

I'm running Ubuntu 13.04, LO 4.0.3.3.

When I open an rtf file that I use frequently all I get is the headings. The text body lines have disappeared. If I do Control-A and change to Arial, I get the text body lines. So it's a question of fonts.

First question: Previously, it seems to me, when a font was missing LO substituted another. This is the first time I've seen just blanks. Am I not remembering correctly or has something changed in LO?

The fonts I want to use -- Trebuchet and Candara -- show up in the list of fonts in LO, but whenever I change to one of them I get a blank line, no insert cursor.

I have followed my customary procedure for installing fonts--
I copy the fonts into home/.fonts.

I tried AbiWord to see if I get the same problem there. Yes, I do. But when I go through the font list some fonts make text in Abi and not in LO, and vice v

What version are you using and what OS?
 4.0.2? 4.0.3?
Win7, Win8? Mac? Linux?

What type of image? JPEG, PNG?
How large it is in file size?

Let me get it correct. . .

You click on the image/picture. Then you go to Format and the wrap,
anchor, alignment, etc. are all grayed out. Then you try right clicking
on the image and the wrap/contour option - it crashes.

I just tried it on an image, that is a part of a LO brochure, with 4.0.3
on 64-bit Debian install and it worked fine and no crashing.

So it may be in your install version or something got messed up in your
user profile.

Try renaming your user profile and then when you open LO, a new clean
one will be created. If that does not work, then it may be the install
itself. Uninstall LO completely and reinstall it.

I think you have both not quite completed the subscription

blank mail to;

users+subscribe< at >global.libreoffice.org

or to
users+subscribe-nomail< at >global.libreoffice.org
(this 2nd one if you plan to use Nabble to read the list and don't want the emails going directly to your email's inbox)

Usually
the problem happens at the next step. You are supposed to get a
confirmation email which you have to respond to. Again it can be a
blank email as no-one reads it (afaik), it just gets processed by a bot
of some sort. The usual problem is that the confirmation email goes
into your junk or spam folder rather than into your inbox.

Have
you had your confirmation email and replied to it? Please let me know
so i can try to find out what else might have gone wrong or forwards
your issue to the postmaster.

Thanks Alex! I guess we would rather have devs working on more widely used stuff. It's always possible to put these ideas forwards possibly for Extensions and just see if that sparks a new dev into working on LibreOffice. I was wondering if there was already an Extension for OpenOffice or something lurking around some long forgotten corner of the internet but i guess the original poster would have already tried googling for that sort of thing.

I found the link that i keep losing

Hi Tom,

Seriously, I doubt that anyone is going to volunteer to provide Claris
or Appleworks support. These are old binary formats.

Now, Pages/Numbers/Keynote support might interest more people, but for
that you would need a Mac developer with some serious time on his/her
hands and at the moment there aren't many floating around in this project.

To my knowledge, not even other apps on OSX can open the
Pages/Numbers/Keynote files. One would have thought that if the problem
of interoperability with these formats was that acute, then some bright
Mac spark would have developed an app that could do just that, convert
them to something more useful.
