<pre>Hey Mike - I just read the LinkedIn posting. Man - that would TOTALLY Be a
Bummer to have it cancelled. I've been wanting to go for a number of years
now - but, the past co. I worked for - nor the current gig (my boss was the
CEO &amp; manager at my last job - and he started up THIS Co. after I was canned
- then he was also Canned last Nov.). Ain't no way he would send me - all he
complains about is that he can barely afford to pay our salaries (but,
honestly - your boss should NEVER Tell Employees that - its up to THEM To
Run the Business - and not keep complaining money is Tight - cause it shows
they just don't know how to run a Business!!!).

And, I can't afford to pay my own way - at least not right now. I already go
each year to my big Graphics conference (SIGGraph in end of July) - and
can't afford another conf. right now! It sure would be a bummer to see the
conference just go away...

A special appeal for consideration from Tamar. Helping get the word
out...don't think I can help by making it though; we've had some
leadership changes and the Fox isn't something our company wants to
continue investing in I'm afraid. :/

I wonder about some sort of online conference instead, where you could
subscribe and pay for the sessions ala carte on your own time? Beats
them having the site expense. Yes, I know and fully agree that the
networking that occurs at conference is extremely valuable (perhaps most
valuable) and this doesn't let that occur, but I'm just thinking of Plan
B if Plan A fails to happen.

<pre>Hello Dave
I was about to give up on this, but it seems you are determined to help me,
so I owe you feedback.
The suggested method seems to work on the first row, but not subsequent
rows.
i.e.
(where the first column is the date)
On entering the grid, i see the date requires me to enter the day (only).
So far so good
I enter data into other columns
I get to the last column which has a valid If lastkey()=13, keyboard
'{DNARROW}'
So I'm back in column 1, 2nd row.
I enter another day and we're back to default behaviour, invalid date,
because the rest of the date is blanked.
I wonder if its to do with SelectOnEntry or Insert on/off

CPU usage isn't a valid measurement to compare desktop and server CPUs. The same application might use 5% on a Core i5, but only 2% on a Xeon E7 due to triple the cache, better conflict management, better predictive queues, etc. A Xeon would still be twice as fast in this case. A core isn't a separate CPU. A number of parts of the CPU do not exist once per core and are shared among cores. Most importantly, the cache and the bus are shared.

Before you do any guessing, you could rent a server in a data center for a month and do some load testing yourself. Amazon rents Xeon machines by the hour for a few cents per hour. In a data center you get a i5 for less than
$100 a mont</pre>

I realize you may be using shorthand for the actual code but if you're
trying to use the RETURN &lt;object&gt; syntax to avoid the setfocus restrictions,
you will need to use the full object hierarchy (i.e. RETURN
thisform.mycontainer.mygrid.mycolumn.text1).

BTW I have used this tip quite successfully to put the focus on a control
other than the next one in the container TAB order.

No. Actually, I have that covered for my main style of form.

The form that I am having trouble with is one where there is no
edit button. The operator is thrown into the form appending to the
table using defaults from the last row entered.

One form has a special requirement for date input (select only
the day digits on entry). I have to use keyboard to set this, and
that triggers the validation. (.selstart and .sellength should work,
but I have found that they sometimes do not (when the control is the
first control). It can also happen when focus goes off the form and
comes back (as, for example, with a messagebox() call). The
.activate of the control fires before that of the form, and
apparently, this causes the .sel*'s to not take effect (though they are set).)

Man is this frustating. So - for now - just so I could Move On - I did the

If only it were that easy.

The problem is that many events will be firing *after* the init
finishes. Some of these will trigger validation. The flag still has
to be disabling validation for a while after init finishes.

<pre>You must have a setfocus call in a when, valid, etc method somewhere. Perhaps some inherited code?

OK - Rafael - now I really AM Going to Pull My Hair OUT!!!

I did as you suggested - I put code into the LostFocus event - for the Style and the Color fields. Well - I just got the well known error: "Cannot call SetFocus from within a When, Valid, RangeHigh or RangeLow event."

Which I find to be QUITE Peculiar - since, in fact - I put the new line of code into the SetFocus Method - which is NOT Listed in the Error above!

So - I have no clue as to why its giving that particular error...

<pre>In addition to the mouse stuff, you should trim it back to the bare essentials for what you're trying to understand. VFP stores the events you've selected for tracking in your FOXUSER table (ID=ETRACK if you're interested) so your event selection is maintained across sessions, assuming you have a resource file in use in your dev environment. This is what I have in mine:

Click, Error, GotFocus, Load, LostFocus, Moved, ProgrammaticChange, QueryUnload,
Unload, UIEnable, Activate, Deactivate, Destroy, Init, ContainerRelease

Yup - I found that out. In my 1st attempt - I incorrectly tracked the Wrong things. I have it tracking now - and I kinda see what's going on. Although - I have to admit - the amount of info/# of Events tracked in that Output window is a bit overwhelming. </pre>
