Even with MyISAM engine, this is not really an issue. MySQL has a reliable, free replication that comes with the product and it is trivial to set up. It's much easier to have a live copy of the database that only lags a couple of seconds. And you can pause the replication to create a snapshot at any given time while your production database is running full-speed on a different server.
