Thanks a million! I believe you are right.

I don't think there is much active development on this integration tool. Here's the code:

I notice a comment from you in SAM-921 (https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAM-921) that you deleted all the predefined assessment type templates in samigo at Stanford, but still gave instructors the option to create their own templates. Do you have a patch for that change that you could share with us or can you describe how you did this? We'd like to do the same thing at the University of Virginia.

Thanks,

<pre>My guess is that the developers of this tool incorrectly use the Hibernate
sequence generator called "increment" despite it being non-cluster-safe:

   http://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/orm/3.3/reference/en/html/mapping.html

Look in the Hibernate definition files (end in .hbm.xml) and look for:

  &lt;generator class="increment"/&gt;

That is bad and won't work for anyone that runs more than one Sakai server
(everyone).

Use "native" instead and your database will generate sequences correctly:

  &lt;generator class="native"/&gt;

Do the developers of this integration maintain the integration as open
source?

<pre>Hi
We're getting a bizarre error using the Elluminate (now Blackboard
Collaborate) synchronous integration. The problem is, all works fine on app
server Sakai2 but I get "ORA-00001: unique constraint" when I do the same
thing on Sakai1. This error tells me that it's trying to insert a record
with a duplicate primary key. The code is identical on both servers.

Using Sakai2 (the one that works) I can create records and I see the ID
column in ELL_SESSION_DATA table increment by 1 appropriately. Updates work
fine. It just seems to be inserts from Sakai1 only that cause the conflict.

It gets stranger. On a whim I decided to redeploy the tool and bounce
tomcat. Afterward everything was fine on both servers for a time, but later
the problem resurfaced but it switched servers. The problem is only
happening on the other one now. Grrrr!

We're new to using multiple app servers. Other tools are fine. Am I missing
something? Could there be a sequence missing? Have you ever heard of a
sequencing conflict like this occu</pre>

I believe that if you had a correct alias, and entered an incorrect alias,
that the correct alias wasn't removed and wasn't reusable again so you were

Should make it so this can't happen anyway though.

<pre>Following up on my own question... I see what changed and how to address this for our needs at UVa.

I found the "mailarchive" code in
    mailarchive-tool/tool/src/java/org/sakaiproject/mailarchive/tool/MailboxAction.java, doUpdate()

changed slightly between 2.7.x and 2.8.x, such that now an edit to the site email address creates another email address instead of modifying the existing email address.

We will revert to the 2.7.x behavior because we want a single site email address, that users can change if desired. Together with this change, we also hide the Site Info Site URL alias to avoid the creation of multiples.

Cheers,

Technical aspects

Solved numerous bugs, 21 in the public JIRA, up to 35 in our private JIRA adding up to an amazing total of 56 resolved issues.
A rewrite of the Hibernate data access layer, and updates to the transaction management. Some clear misunderstandings of the Hibernate persistence framework have been removed. Hibernate has been made more effective and superfluous code has been removed. Furthermore, the transaction demarcation has been done right.
The original implementation kept the state of the SCORM object runtime in the session, and only synchronized to the database on an explicit commit call made by the SCORM object. As a result, the session synchronization with the actual persistent storage caused problems, because the conversation pattern with the persistent storage is one of short-term conversation and not suited for long term conversations. Subject: Re: [Building Sakai] does Gradebook Sakai 2.6 have API?

Hi,

Generate the javadocs for the grade book shared API module. Then use the
org.sakaiproject.service.gradebook.shared.GradebookService class.

These are the javadocs for the gradebook service in 2.8:

http://source.sakaiproject.org/release/edu-services/1.1.3/apidocs/org/sakaip
roject/service/gradebook/shared/GradebookService.html

It should be documented as to which methods to call. Basically, in the
gradebook an 'Assignment' is a gradebook item.

cheers,

Steve

Hi,

Yes there is the GradebookService which you can use to extract results for
gradebook items. You can also extract the course grade though you'll need to
perform some calculations for weighted categories (if the 2.6 grade book
supports that). I recently wrote an SIS integration based on this approach.

cheers,

Steve

I understand there is an export function but this is very manual, we are
looking for something automated.

Hope to hear from you all soon.

<pre>Hi all,

Just a headsup that the 2.8.2 release is being performed over the next few days. The uploading of release artifacts is slow for me so it will be spread out. I'm hoping that there will be no disruption to the 2.8 branch (or indies/purepoms) but apologies in advance if you have issues.

Feel free to get in touch if you do have issues and I'll work with you to resolve them.

regards,
Steve
