<pre>Dear all,

You may have seen my earlier messages about having to move this mailing
list quickly because I have to move all my domains off Joyent. Well,
thanks to the hard work of Dan Rice (ably assisted by Reinier Balt), the
list and all the archives has now moved to a Google Group called
TracksApp:

https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/tracksapp

This Mailman list will be closing very soon, so if you are still
interested in remaining subscribed to the list, please join the new
Google Group. Once you have done so, you can post to the list using the
following email address:

tracksapp-/JYPxA39Uh5TLH3MbocFFw&lt; at &gt;public.gmane.org

Please note that the emails will now have the subject prefix
[Tracks-discuss], so if you had mail rules or filters set up, you may
want to adjust them appropriately.

The new group has a lot of nice facilities, and is actually somewhat
better set up for a group of contributors to administer than Mailman
was, so I think it is a step in the right direction!

I used to run an Tracks on an FC 15 server as well. But once Tracks
was compatible with 1.9.x, I just set up RVM and used 1.9.x via that
mechanism. I'd really love to get Tracks up to the latest
recommendation for our software stack ASAP, preferably with 2.2. It
decreases the amount of work we have to do and other stuff we have to
maintain ourselves (e.g. your cache_digests gem). I'm also ok with
doing one last release that's 1.8.x compatible too, so my main passion
around this is saving ourselves time and effort. :)

Do the tests still pass? If so, let's just make an RC and be done with
it. The tests should tell us everything we need to know.

What purpose does waiting serve to kill the old list? Let's kill the
old list ourselves - as a community - by just never posting there
anymore and then when bsag's hosting goes away, then the list dies.
Problem solved - right? - or am I missing something?

Thanks

I like to do 2.2 with 1.8.7 support because my own server (fc 15) only
supports 1.8.7. So this is completely selfish :-)
But I'll upgrade my server at the end of the year and my dependency is gone.

BTW, I do not see a lot of tickets for 2.2, so we could go to 2.2RC to get
more people testing. But I'd like some feedback on the recent caching
changes.

True, but I leave that to bsag to officially kill the original list :-)

Perhaps it would just be better to drop 1.8 support for master
instead? I don't think we need the maintenance burden at this point.
The majority of the ruby/rails community has also made the switch to
1.9

I'm a bit confused. If the biggest culprit is the javascript
performance, shouldn't we be focusing on that? Or is javascript
performance now the biggest culprit since you adding caching?

Please send out a separate announcement for this. This is too
important to be buried here, IMO

<pre>Hi all,

I've tried the new cache-digests gem to easy add caching to Tracks.
(I had to clone the gem to enable it running on ruby 1.8.7)

I have cached Todo, Context (different for home page, tag page and tickler)
and Project. This brought nice speed improvements for server-rendering.

For who is interested, it is currently on the add_cache branch if you want
to test it out. I've added bullet and rack-mini-profiler there too. The
second is enabled in development only so you can see the difference. Be sure
to enable caching in development in config/environments/development.rb if
you try this from development environment. Production has caching enabled by
default.

Please note: The biggest culprit right now is the javascript performance.
This is not affected in any way by this caching

N.B. This message is cross-posted to the old and new mailing list. This list

You can change the colors in the stylesheet of Tracks. It can be found in /path/to/tracks/public for versions up to 2.1. It is in /path/to/tracks/app/assets/stylesheets for the 2.2devel version.

<pre>Scott,
if (using Chrome) you right click on the link and select 'inspect element'
it will tell you which CSS rule matched. In this case it's this one, in
tracks-cached.css:

a, a:link, a:active, a:visited {
color: #cc3334;
text-decoration: none;
padding-left: 1px;
padding-right: 1px;
}

The line number (80 in my case) is not helpful, because the file
tracks-cached.css gets generated by the server from all the stylesheets in
$trackshome/public/stylesheets (or thereabouts), so you would need to grep
for this definition.

However, just changing this color to 'yellow' will make all the other links
yellow as well, which isn't helpful. So you'll have to go through the views
(in $trackshome/app/views/*), add a new class to the links you want
changed, and define the class in the stylesheet.

Best
Christian

Andy and Keith,

You both feel strongly about this (on opposite sides), but I don't think
it's a productive discussion to have here. Let's stick to the task in
hand of moving the list safely. That's the only bit of Tracks now
remaining on Joyent (I think! We haven't forgotten anything else, have
we Reinier?), and everything else on there is just my problem ;-)

Thanks to some very helpful suggestions and kind offers of help from
various people in this community, it looks as if we're going to be able
to move the list to Google groups, with the archives intact. People will
have to re-register, which is a pain, but hopefully only a one-off pain.

I'm just back from holidays, which explains my late reply :-)

Yes, just fill in a new todo with a context name that will trigger the
issue. Trace the request to the server after you press the Add Action
button.

Tracks log is in /path/to/tracks/log/production.log. You do not need to set
logging level.

I just read your other email about the dropdown for tags, context and
project. It looks like javascript is not running well. Any error messages in
the javascript console of your browser? Does all the issues occur when you
use another webbrowser (from another pc?)

I would be happy to try the things you suggest, but will ask for some more
detail first (I am a techy, but now a web dev, I am a generalist)

At what point should I be looking at the http request parameters? When is
the request sent to the server? When I press the "Add Action" button?

To check Tracks logs, do I need to set any logging level in tracks? If so
where do I set that? Which and where is the Tracks log that you would like
me to look in? And what would the logged event look like?

I am willing to help if you want to nail this bug, but please help me with
this extra detail.

drop down lists of contexts, tags or projects

<pre>Hello,

My installation of Tracks (2.1.1) is not showing drop downs of contexts,
tags or projects when I am adding new actions (or projects). I have used
some of the hosted services, so know how the feature is supposed to look,
but for mine (installed on CentOS using the Bitnami installer) it is not
working. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Regards

Andrew Horton

Re: Question about repeating / recurring todos...

<pre>Hi all,

The next day for a recurring todo is calculated relative from the date the
previous todo is completed. This means that if you want to do something on
the first day of every quarter, the first day of every 3 months should work
if

. the first todo is set correctly

. every todo is marked complete on the first of that month
(otherwise it will skip to the next month)

For the first todo I think Tracks calculates from the current date, not from
the start-from date (start-from is used only if it is in the future). I
think you have a valid use case that the first todo should be calculated
from the start-from date, not from the current date (only use current date
if there is no start-date)

Remember that it calculates the next occurrence from either the current-date
or the completed-at date. Tracks will first add 3 months. From that date it
will search for the first day of the month. So that could explain the 9
extra days.

If you want specific dates on which a todo should reoc</pre>

<pre>Hi

It has been reported in the past. I've tried to reproduce but failed. Also
reviewed the code. Could not find anything. I closed the ticket on Assembla
many months ago.

Maybe it is a platform issue, i.e. the server (apache?) or browser changing
cases of the http request parameters. Perhaps you can look using Firebug
what is sent to the server and look in the Tracks logs if the same data
arrives there?

Andrew,

I do not see this bug myself, nor have I come across in any report that I
recall.

Bugs are managed in Assembla. If you have not resolved the issue, you can
report it as a bug on assembla:

<pre>Hi Steve,

I think that's a nice idea. Do you know what code changes it would
take to make that happen? Making a gem out of the Tracks code base
should be pretty easy, if that's all there is to it. :)

Thanks,
Matt
