Thanks for the suggestion, but I was just looking for a simple way of doing it. Your method adds so much work it would defeat the purpose of using Musedit.

If it can't be done easily, it's not really a big deal. I can live with Musedit's chord name choices.

Notepad file with your text or whatever, you can just copy (as you need
them) and paste via the insert doc function in Musedit. If you want to get
real fancy; you can use a draw program for your text or graphics (chord
diagrams, etc) such as Coreldraw or Adobe Illustrator and do the same
thing. Len

Thanks for the hint. It would work, but it's not an "elegant" solution since it requires more work and if you rearrange spacing, you have to do it on two lines. But it is a solution.

When putting chord diagrams in the Chord line, is there any way to use names such as CM7 instead of Cmaj7. Or to use symbols like the "half-diminished" circle with a slash through it for a dim7 chord, or a triangle for a major chord?

I don't Musedit has any native ability to do that but you could always add chords with names that make sense to you. It'd be a bit of work but you can just let it build up over time.

I think Musedit has to use it's particular nomenclature so that it can transpose the names, but are there any work-arounds?

OK, that is another way of doing it. What a program, so many choices! Still need to use Len's Alt-Shift-F to squeeze the staff down, but the one advantage I see with this method is if you were ever to transpose the song, the chord names would automatically transpose also.

Glad you have it working for you...that's the most important part. :-)

Just an fyi, you could still use chord lines because there's the option of having certain chord lines always display regardless of the "hide diagrams" setting. To enable that for a specific line:

() place the cursor in the desired chord line
() select menu; View -> Line Appearance -> Chord and Tab Line Appearance...
() in the Visibility of Chord Diagrams portion of the dialog...
() check the checkbox: Chord diagrams in current or selected line(s) should be:
() and choose the radio button; Always visible, even when hide diagrams" is checked

Thanks for the suggestion, but a chord line includes a chord diagram. I just wanted the chord name w/o the diagram.

Thanks, I just discovered that. The chord name is still too high above the staff and needs to be lowered via Len's Alt-Shift-F menu.

However, here's why Len's original suggestion works the best for me. I'm putting the song's "standard" chords just above the notation. These are chord names only, w/o chord symbols. Then above that I have chord diagrams with the actual chords and substituted chords that I'm using for a chord-melody arrangement of the song. So I use a Text line for the original chord names and a Chord Line for the actual chords. So I can't really use the "hide chord diagrams" tool.

Note that my staff line only has the melody notes and not all the notes in each chord, so generally speaking, there are no ledger lines above the staff.

But thanks for everyone's help. I keep learning new things and that's great!

If you insert a chord line, rather than a text line, and use it for
entering your chord names, you'll automatically get a pretty good
spacing and won't have to try to do it yourself. You can insert these
chord lines by using " ctrl h"or by using the command listed under
"insert" or by using the toolbar button.

You are a GENIUS! That worked perfectly. It also made me curious and I tried to look it up in my Musedit manual, but it's not there, not even under the keyboard shortcuts. I finally found info on it in the Help file under "Dialogs" but it never says how to get there. Is this an undocumented shortcut?

Anyway, thanks again, you made my day!
