    <link>http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.apache.uima.devel/14408</link>
    <description>&lt;pre&gt;Peter Klügl created UIMA-2402:
---------------------------------

Summary: TextMarker: Enable advanced matching options for CSV tables
                 Key: UIMA-2402
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/UIMA-2402
             Project: UIMA
          Issue Type: New Feature
          Components: TextMarker
            Reporter: Peter Klügl
            Assignee: Peter Klügl
            Priority: Minor

The dictionary-matching for the entries of CSV tables with the action MARKTABLE only supports exact matches since it is not configurable by the arguments of the action. The implementation is based on the trie word lists that support options like ignoreCase or ignoreChars. Enable this functionality by extending the language definition of the action.

I attached a patch that changes DEFAULT_HEAP_MULTI_LIMIT to 512K. I did not include function to make this parameterizable (though, could be done in the future, if necessary).

Replicated the problem with supplied test case. Modified BaseUIMAAsynchronousEngine_impl to synchronize access to SharedConnection object during initialization and shutdown of the uima-as client to prevent concurrent access by multiple threads. After the change, the test case completes with no exceptions.

----------------------------------

I consider this analogous to how an ArrayList's capacity grows in Java. They provided some reasonable implementation that seems to work for everyone, and they don't expose ways to tune it.

With the multi limit at 512K we are talking about at most 4MB of unused space, and I don't consider that excessive. As I said though, I wouldn't object if someone made this parameterizable.

Marshall Schor commented on UIMA-1176:
--------------------------------------

The global setting is set up to only define the initial value of each editor instance. The setting can be changed within each editor instance to a different value, if desired, on the Type System page. Changes to the global settings will only affect new editor instantiations.

--------------------------------------

I'm implementing this as follows:
It's based on the concept of being in the "same project" or not. If enabled, types defined in descriptors which are not in the same project are skipped.

For non-eclipse environments, a directory path passed in serves as a surrogate for the project.

The skipping is only done if the type in question didn't undergo an "expansion" (more features) because of type merging. If the type to be "skipped" has been merged, then an error is reported (only if this limiting of generation is enabled).

1) change the basic JCasGen to take additional parameters - a boolean specifying whether to limit generation of non-locally defined Types.
2) change the CDE to add a check button under the JCasGen button on the type definition page, to enable &lt;/pre&gt;</description>

Richard Eckart de Castilho commented on UIMA-2385:
--------------------------------------------------

I think it could be useful as a tunable parameter in scenarios where many CASes are in memory at the same time. Is there any particular reason that it should not be configurable?
