2nd International Workshop on
Recommender Systems meet Big Data &amp; Semantic Technologies - SeRSy 2013
in conjunction with RecSys 2013, Hong Kong, October 12-16, 2013

http://recsys.acm.org/recsys13/sersy/

MOTIVATION
----------
Recommendation techniques generally rely on data referring to three
kinds of objects: users, items and their relations. The widespread
success of Semantic Web techniques, creating a Web of interoperable and
machine readable data, offers novel strategies to represent data that
might improve the current state of the art of recommender systems, in
order to move towards a new generation of recommender systems which
fully understand the items they deal with.

Indeed, more and more semantic data are published following the Linked
Data principles, that enable to set up links between objects in
different data sources, by connecting information in a single global
data space </pre>

Special Issue on Digital Scholarship

Digital scholarship, or "cyberscholarship" - that based on data and
computation - is radically reshaping knowledge discovery, creation,
analysis, presentation and dissemination in many topical areas.
Scientists are using vast amounts of data to explore galaxies,
measure stresses on earth systems, create genetic profiles of living
things and study the changing behaviors and mores of societies and
individuals in a an increasing populated and fragile physical world
steeped in networked digital technologies. Similarly, humanists are
using new types of information objects, methodologies and tools to
transform and expand their scholarly endeavors. Examples include the
creation and use of digital representations of material culture by
historians, introducing spatial and temporal indexed data into the
study of literature and information visualizations to communicate the
outcomes of traditional humanistic inquiry.

Users interact with recommender systems to obtain useful information about
products or services that may be of interest for them.

But, while users are interacting with a recommender system to fulfill a
primary task, which is usually the selection of one or more

items, they are facing several other decision problems. For instance, they
may be requested to select specific feature values

(e.g., camera's size, zoom) as criteria for a search, or they could have to
select feedback features to be critiqued in a critiquing

based recommendation session, or they may need to select a repair proposal

== Scope ==

Experiment replication and reproduction are key requirements for empirical

research methodology, and an important open issue in the field of Recommender

Systems. When an experiment is repeated by a different researcher and exactly

the same result is obtained, we can say the experiment has been replicated. When

the results are not exactly the same but the conclusions are compatible with the

prior ones, we have a reproducti</pre>

1st International *Workshop on **User-Adaptive Visualization* -- WUAV 2013
June 14th, 2013, Rome, Italy
http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~steichen/WUAV2013/index.html
held in conjunction with UMAP 2013, in Rome, Italy

----------
 Overview
----------*
*Recent advances in visualization research have shown that individual
user needs, abilities, and preferences can have a significant impact on
visualization effectiveness. It is therefore important to investigate
visualization techniques that support each user by adapting to such
individual differences, both in terms of stable (long-term) user traits
(e.g. perceptual speed, personality), as well as transitory (short-term)
states (e.g. attention, current task, evolving expertise). To this end,
we invite participation in the 1st International Workshop on
User-Adaptive Visualization, held in conjunction with UMAP 2013
